Main duties of the job

To ensure the delivery of high-quality nursing care to people who attend the Emergency Department; to provide dynamic clinical leadership in order to develop the Emergency Department nursing team through effective line management; to provide expertise to the wider Emergency Department team.

Job responsibilities

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate paediatric care within agreed guidelines and pathways. Ensure patient safety at all times and that patients and relatives needs are met in a courteous, helpful, and compassionate manner. Act as clinical leader and role model, sharing expertise with colleagues. Deliver high quality and evidence-based nursing care, and ensure that colleagues maintain the same through ongoing training and audit. Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of patient care, and ensure that colleagues maintain the same. Promote effective relationships between the multidisciplinary team, both within the immediate clinical environment and across the wider Trust. Ensure that any risks to effective patient care are raised through the appropriate channels. Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

Registered Nurse or equivalent Allied health professional Recognised Mentorship Course PILS/ILS (or equivalent)

Desirable

HMIMMS /TNCC/ALS/APLS Further study post registration (For example: acute care or advance assessment course) Recognised leadership course

Experience

Essential

Previous emergency department experience at a senior level (minimum 2 years as a band 6) Able to work in a busy demanding area Experience and competence in managing / leading a team Practical teaching experience formally or informally

Desirable

Good understanding of clinical governance and its application within an emergency care setting Line management experience (performance appraisals / sickness management) Link Nurse Role

Key Skills/Abilities

Essential

Fully competent in all clinical skills relevant to emergency nursing (Including - Triage, minor injury management, care of the critically unwell patient adult or child, transfer of the critically unwell patient, trauma care, chemical incident management and major incident management) Competent in x-ray requesting and advanced plastering Evidence of conducting audits and development of current department. Good understanding of infection control principles and their application within an emergency care setting Ability to resolve and deal with problems and conflict Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to prioritise and manage workload taking responsibility for decision making under pressure Demonstrates Trust values

Able to complete a full complement of shifts including nights and weekends, to enable the effective delivery of a 24/7 emergency service
