Applications are invited for a Research Associate (RA) position within the Control and Power Research Group in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The post is supported by the and the RA will lead the technical coordination between EPICS and the system operators of the . The RA will fulfill their role by spending significant time working at NGESO, one of the six Founding System Operators (FSO) of the G-PST, located in Wokingham, west of London. They will work closely with all the system operators of the G-PST in particular the FSOs (NGESO, ERCOT, CAISO, EirGrid, Energinet & AEMO), the leadership of Pillar 1 of the G-PST the supervisor, and the Executive Director of ESIG. They will also be expected to work closely with the secretariat of the G-PST which is led by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in the US.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop their own research program within the G-PST and aligned to the Research Agenda, a rich and important set of research questions endorsed by the FSOs and at the core of the G-PST and EPICS.
A broad range of research expertise is necessary from, Inverter-Based Resources (IBRs), optimisation, Machine Learning and in general modelling and control of power systems. They will supervise a small research team and will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals and to participate in attracting additional research funding.
Applicants should have a PhD degree in power systems and/or power electronics at transmission or distribution level.
Applicants should have a publication record in their area of expertise. Experience of dealing with the energy industry and or policy makers and/or research sponsors in energy/environment or in a closely related area is desired but not necessary to apply for the position.
