Main duties of the job

Apharmacy technician is a vital part of the pharmacy team. You work under the supervision of clinical pharmacists to ensure safe practice and ensuring patients get the most from the medicines they are prescribed.

You would be required to have completed or be willing to complete the CPPE pathway.

You would be required to answer patients queries face to face and by telephone, knowing when to refer problems to the pharmacist or GP.

Thepharmacy technician will be supported by 2 clinical pharmacists, 6 GP partners and 6 salariedGP's, a nursing team of 9, a paramedic and a frailtyservice, we also have experienced management, reception and administrationteams to further support your role.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the pharmacy technician. There maybe on occasion a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent onfactors such as workload and staffing levels. The pharmacy technician will workwithin their scope of clinical practice and:

a.Towork as part of a multi-disciplinary team whilst in a supporting function tothe clinical pharmacist and other clinicians and within agreed prescribingstandard operating procedures

b.Tosupport the clinical pharmacist as the point of contact for all medicinesrelated matters

c.Toprocess repeat medication requests, including the conversion of acute requeststo repeat medicines, changing quantities of medicines

d.Toissue prescriptions in line with agreed clinical protocols and within yourcompetency

e.Toencourage cost-effective prescribing

f.Toundertake medicines reconciliation post discharge and on other transfers ofcare

g.Toupdate and maintain accurate and timely patient medication records on eachpractice clinical system, including advice given and action taken

h.Toliaise with secondary and primary care colleagues to ensure correct medicinesare continued following the transfer of care

i.Tomonitor practice adherence to the prescribing policy

j.Tosupport virtual and remote models of consultation and support including e-consultations,telehealth and telemedicine

k.Toliaise with practices and implement and embed a robust repeat prescribingsystem for use across all practices

l.Tosupport the clinical pharmacist in improving the quality and effectiveness ofprescribing through clinical audit and education to improve performance againstNICE standards, and clinical and prescribing guidance

m.Toensure appropriate supervision of safe storage, rotation and disposal ofvaccines and drugs

n.Toapply infection-control measures within the practice according to local andnational guidelines

o.Toidentify and be proactive in your training needs and development and as agreedwith the Clinical Pharmacist.

p.Tosupport in the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements onbehalf of the PCN

q.Toparticipate in the management of patient complaints when requested to do so andparticipate in the identification of any necessary learning brought aboutthrough incidents and near-miss events

r.Toactively signpost patients to the correct healthcare professional

s.Toundertake all mandatory training and induction programmes

t.Tocontribute to and embrace the spectrum of clinical governance

u.Toattend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once aperformance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on aregular basis so that new objectives can be agreed

v.Tocontribute to public health campaigns ( flu clinics) through advice ordirect care

To maintain a clean, tidy, effective workingarea at all times

Inaddition to the primary responsibilities, the pharmacy technician may berequested to:

a.Supportdelivery of QOF, incentive schemes, QIPP and other quality or costeffectiveness initiatives and audits

b.Undertakeany tasks consistent with the level of the post and the scope of the role,ensuring that work is delivered in a timely and effective manner

Essential

Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

Experience working in primary care

Qualifications

Essential

GCSE in Maths and English w Completed or a willingness to complete CPPE

Desirable

Qualified to NVQ level 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent

Knowledge and skills

Good interpersonal and communication skills Ability to provide accurate quality care
