The Medical Division are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Band 7 to lead on safety and quality in our winter escalation ward.

There has never been a greater time to join Tameside Hospital and TGiCFT. We were awarded a Good by the CQC at the last visit and we are now working towards improving on this.

Main duties of the job

To carry continuous responsibility and accountability for the management of the department, making effective use of resources and ensuring the highest standards of patient care are achievedon a 24-hour basis. To always act in a manner consistent with the Code of Professional Conduct, carrying out his/her duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures. To demonstrate expert knowledge and skills in the clinical area. To lead, support, supervise and teach all staff, acting as a role model for the staff with regard to professional behaviour and supporting the strategy for nursing and allied health professionals. To proactively participate within the management of the Division, including acting as senior bleep holder for the division. To maintain own clinical and professional development by keeping up to date with new trends and developments, interpret and incorporate them as necessary into your work.

Job responsibilities

PROFESSIONAL/CLINICAL:

Ensure the unsupervised delivery of evidence based nursing care by providing expert clinical assessment, care planning, care delivery, care evaluation and clinical advice in accordance with NMC Code of ProfessionalConduct. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work, including management and responsibility for more junior members of staff and all patients and working as an autonomous clinical practitioner. Actively demonstrate expertise to all levels of staff, including new medical staff. To respond to frequent request and interruptions from all grades of nursing staff and from medical staff, with regard to patient care problems and the organization of the unit, patient management and bed management. Working in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct Competently undertake expanded roles, and teach and assess the competence of other clinical staff to do so, to enhance the delivery of patient care, Venepuncture, Intra-Venous Cannulation, ECG recording, intravenous drug administration. Using own judgement, initiate appropriate interventions prior to medical input being available, including those with complex presentation using analytical skills. Provide spontaneous advise, teaching and instruction to other grades of nurses and professionals including new members of medical staff. Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records and ensure that all records relating to patient care is clear, concise and legible in accordance with the Trust and NMC Standards for Records and Record Keeping. Monitor other staffs record keeping and ensure it is done in accordance with the same. Identify service development priorities and implement them, communicating with the Matron about all issues. Identify training needs for all nursing staff associated with practice changes/developments and ensure this is carried out. In liaison with the Matron and other professionals identify and lead the development and implementation of relevant clinical guidelines and policies. Ensure adherence to the Trust Medicines Policy and the NMC Standards for The Administration of Medicines. Initiate and lead audits of practice and clinical effectiveness in accordance with Divisional and regional audit plan. Initiate and lead specific areas of practice developments in accordance with local and national policies and strategies to improve patient care. Lead benchmarking activity within the clinical area and implement outcomes from Tameside Safety and Quality Accreditation programme and other audit and improvement programmes Further develop skills continually which are required to practice at an Advanced theoretical and practical level. Assess and actively manage within the clinical area in accordance with Health and safety legislation and risk management policy. Facilitate and provide access to professional and clinical information for staff in the clinical area. Formulate and ensure the availability of appropriate patient information, which is responsive to communication barriers. Work within Data Protection and Caldecott requirements for information sharing. Person Specification
