NHS Lanarkshire - University Hospital Wishaw

Consultant Emergency Medicine (2 posts)

We are looking to welcome new colleagues to join an enthusiastic, motivated and supportive team of 13 Consultant Emergency Physicians dedicated to providing care that is patient-centred, safe and clinically effective.

You will work within the Emergency Department in University Hospital Wishaw, which is a Trauma Unit within the Scottish Trauma Network, and the NHS Lanarkshire centre for emergency orthopaedics. The department has an annual attendance of 80,000 with approximately 25% of its attendances being paediatric.

As a team of EM consultants, we strongly believe in providing a sustainable work/life balance. We have a well-established self-rostering system in place with sessions being annualised. Clinical administration time has been factored in as per RCEM guidance. There are no plans to move to consultant night-shifts.

Our department is truly a multidisciplinary team with emergency medicine trainees from the West of Scotland rotation, specialty doctors, clinical fellows, clinical development fellows, GP trainees, foundation trainees, advanced care practitioners; advanced practice physiotherapists and extended role minor injuries nursing staff. We are committed to the training and development of the entire team and look to expand our team further to continue to provide excellent, progressive care.

We work closely with the wider hospital inpatient teams and have developed excellent relationships to allow collaborative working, ensuring patient-centred care.

NHS Lanarkshire welcomes applications from both newly qualified and established Consultants in Emergency Medicine to join and expand our motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated team.

Applicants who wish to arrange job plans to accommodate other professional interests are encouraged to apply.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview. Alternatively, they should have eligibility for specialist registration (CESR award letter) at time of interview.

The job is offered as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis (including up to 2 non-DCC) but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time. If full-time, up to 2 EPA’s may be available to undertake additional clinical activity.

The University of Glasgow enjoys close links with NHS Lanarkshire, and our medical students benefit greatly from the excellent educational opportunities provided by the board in both primary and secondary care. Those who are or who will be involved in teaching our students, or in any other activity which involves a contribution to teaching, research or scholarship within the University are eligible for honorary status at the University of Glasgow.

Honorary Status Role Holders are entitled to numerous benefits including a University of Glasgow ID card, use of the Library and other facilities, and a University IT account as required for their role. They have access to all courses run by the IT Services on the same basis as members of staff and are also permitted an educational discount when PC equipment is purchased through the IT Services.

NHS Lanarkshire are happy to consider requests for this publication to be in another accessible format i.e. large print, braille, etc. Please contact us via either of the undernoted methods clearly stating which format is required:

‘In NHS Lanarkshire we are committed to recruiting a workforce that fully reflects the diverse make-up of our society. *Care experienced applicants are people who live/have lived with foster parents/kinship carers or who live/have lived in a residential children’s setting/secure unit.’
