Job summary

Bruton Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivatedand flexible individual to join the practice as a Medical Secretary on a permanent basis, providing general secretarial support to Managers, GPsand health professionals, involving word processing and audio typing skillswith general clerical work.

The post available will be working 15-25 hours per week.

Working hours andpatterns to be discussed at interview.

The rate of pay will be £ - £ per hour, depending on experience, with the benefit of an NHS or NEST pension.

Main duties of the job

To provide an efficient audio/Lexacom, copy typing and word processing service for GPs and health professionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, minutes, memorandums, etc. in an accurate and quality manner. To assist the practice manager with all clerical and administrative duties. To make appointments, bookings and admissions as required. To liaise and arrange meetings (to include the booking of rooms) as required and to attend meetings and take minutes. To retrieve medical records and assist the completion of medical/insurance records. To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries. To maintain the computer clinic system in an accurate and secure manner. To provide cover for members of the secretarial team during periods of sickness and annual leave. In liaison with the Operations Manager, maintain adequate supplies of office stationery in order to perform secretarial duties.

Qualifications

Essential

English & Maths GCSE or equivalent (A*-D grade/grade 9 to 3)

Desirable

NVQ in Business and Administration

Experience

Essential

Previous secretarial experience Experience of working in a customer focused environment Experience of working within an administration team xperience of working in the NHS or similar health care setting Awareness of clinical systems such as EMIS

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Knowledge of medical terminology Computer literate, including Word, Outlook and Internet, and good keyboard skills Ability to listen carefully and communicate effectively and sensitively (verbal and written) to patients and staff at a range of levels (E) Excellent organisational skills (E) Strong attention to detail and the ability to transfer accurate information Work well under pressure Use own initiative within clear boundaries, seeking advice when necessary Demonstrate enthusiasm and a strong sense of teamwork Knowledge of the NHS/General Practice Ability to complete tasks to a high standard with frequent interruptions
