Assistant Vice President

Clearing & Payments department supports the Bank in a back office capacity, supporting the Bank’s operational processing for various banking products, working with retail branches and front office teams to support London Branch and Subsidiary customers. As an Assistant Vice President - Business Risk & Controls, you will act as operational risk and control specialist in the first line of defence (1LoD) that facilitates, advises and oversees 1LoD operational risk and control management activities and also promote sound risk culture, awareness and behaviour within the department. This is a full time permanent role.

Key responsibilities

  • Advise and support the business in identifying and assessing non-financial risks such as Financial Crime, Regulatory Compliance and Business Continuity risk captured under the Operational Risk Taxonomy and associated controls
  • Work with business to execute 1LoD operational risk management programme, new product approval process, and 1LoD assessment/attestation for specific non-financial risks such as ABC, fraud, tax evasion risk assessment and control attestation
  • Work with end-to-end stakeholders to analyse emerging trends, incidents and reportable Operational Risk Event (ORE) to identify underlying issues, assess potential risks/impact and establish appropriate solutions or remedial actions
  • Maintain a good overview of the business’ operational risk profile and control environment. Follow-up on issues identified from various channels
  • Advise and support the business in reviewing policies and/or procedures and in identifying and documenting controls in the business that meet the Bank’s and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee business operational risk and control management activities. Challenge the business when adequate practices are not evident and provide guidance and recommend course of action as appropriate
  • Act as the key point of contact on the operational risk and controls matters or initiatives in the business. Maintain effective end-to-end engagement with the Business Risk & Control Manager (BRCM) as well as second line of defence (2LoD) oversight functions for various non-financial risk types
  • Participate and contribute to key risk governance forum/committee as business risk and control representative
  • Escalate to management and governance forum on material concerns, persistent issues or breaches of rules, regulations, policies or procedures
  • Produce reporting for affiliated transactions to Head Office/Financial Crime and Compliance
  • Monitoring each team’s Daily Task Checklist as the final check point, reminder/report any missing signature on the checklist, and check all tasks progress/implementation on time.
  • Oversight of the department’s Nostro and Suspense reconciliations and outstanding payments

Requirements

  • Degree educated in Business, Finance, Economics or other equivalent
  • Solid understanding of financial products, services, process and risk management process
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and stakeholder influence skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities concurrently and manage business expectations accordingly
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access) 
  • Programming knowledge is highly desirable
  • SQL Database technical skills is highly desirable
  • Solid knowledge of retail banking products and processes
  • Knowledge of Trade Settlement process, Bullion Clearing and CCP business is desirable
