Job summary

The post holder is required to provide delivering essential and specialist nursing care to patients. We are currently a 23 bedded ward which includes a 5 bedded coronary care unit. The ward delivers care to patients with a number cardiac conditions and supports patients throughout Walsall and the surrounding area.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will provide nursing skills and a background within cardiology. The post holder will work within the team to ensure all patients are safely cared for from admission to discharge. This will also include caring for patients prior to procedures and transfers to the nearest PCI centre.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a professional registered nurse with background within cardiology and to provide direct patient care using evidence based policies and procedures in clinical areas.

The role will be to look after patients with cardiac conditions to assess care needs, develop, implement and evaluate standards of care. The role will involve mentoring junior staff, to comply with clinical governance strategy within the clinical areas in accordance with WMH policies. The candidate will work within the NMC scope of practice and within local and WMH policies and to follow theNMC code of conduct and ensure others dolikewise. The candidate will need to maintain standards of record keeping and documentation, maintain mandatory training requirements and to ensure appropriate discharge planning for patients.

General Duties:

Day to day operation of the cardiology, including working with the team providing quality care to patients, safe admissions and discharges, working along side the NMC code of conduct being professional and adhering to standards, working in line with the trust policy, ensuring ward area is clean and safe for both the patients and staff. the stocking and restocking of all consumables and pharmaceuticals. To escalate deteriorating patients, completing individualised care plans and liaising with team and multidisciplinary team.

Cardiology hours are long days and night shifts. Shift starts at 07:30 - 20:00 with one hour break.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered nurse with current NMC registration. Mentorship/Teaching Qualification.

Experience

Essential

Must have post registration experience as a registered Staff Nurse.

Desirable

Experience in working in field of Cardiology.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Ability to write clearly and legibly. Can articulate well with A/I H good listening skills. A good team player who will support colleagues and junior A/I H staff.

Other

Essential

Must demonstrate a knowledge of the role and A/I H responsibilities of the post, clinical and non-clinical. Must have a working knowledge relating to Health and Safety. Must have a working knowledge of their responsibilities in relation to clinical risk management. Understanding of the term `person centred care.' Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS). A caring outlook, a desire to want to improve the quality of life for the people we look after.
