London, United Kingdom Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

Applications are invited for a Consultant Cardiologist specialising in Electrophysiology (EP) with expertise in Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC). This is a replacement post that will be integral to maintain the service delivery of the EP/Devices Department and develop the clinical and academic electrophysiology and ICC programmes. The post-holder will be a fully trained and independent consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist. This individual will be able to perform outpatient clinics independently, run catheter lab electrophysiology intervention and device lists for investigation and treatment of patients with cardiac arrhythmias, as well as participate in the Consultant-of-the-week and arrhythmia on-call rota. The successful candidate will support the catheter labs and the wards by supervising the SpRs and clinical fellows in the day-to-day workflow. The post will involve close working with the Arrhythmia Clinical Nurse Specialists in order to decide which in-patients need to undergo invasive investigations and to coordinate inter-hospital transfers for treatment.

Main duties of the job

Your job plan is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average and includes on-call commitments. This is an outline programme, and you will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including your personal and professional objectives with your Clinical Lead or Clinical Director within 3 months of your start date. You will be given adequate secretarial support, shared office space with a personal computer and access to a dedicated mentor/supervisor. There will be support to develop your capabilities and support your individual goals. The successful candidate will be expected to partake in audit and service improvement initiatives.

As an organisation we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This means that some staff groups will increasingly be asked to work a more flexible shift pattern so that we can offer services in the evenings or at weekends. We also have a positive approach to corporate social responsibility and are keen to engage our staff in an agenda that ranges from promoting environmental sustainability to the creation of local employment opportunities.

The job plan will be negotiated between the consultant and his/her clinical director at least annually.
