Job summary

We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic, friendlyand kind Healthcare Assistants who have a passion for womens health to joinour team on the Emergency Gynaecology Assessment Unit and Gynaecology Inpatient Unit.

We provide a high-quality, 24:7gynaecology emergency service for women across Worcestershire, alongsideelective surgery. We have a friendly and skilled nursing team and work closelywith the medics to provide these services and who will support you as youprovide excellent and compassionate care. Shifts will involvea variety of long days (0700-1930h) and nights (1900-0730h) with more frequent night shifts than day currently have a vacancy for hours/week and the role is primarily based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

This is an interesting, varied andemotionally demanding area of nursing which is hugely rewarding and we are keento help you develop to your full potential in this appealing role. You willneed excellent communication skills to engage with patients and colleagues atall levels and will be encouraged to develop your skills and knowledge withinthefield of Gynaecology.

Main duties of the job

The healthcare assistant will work as part of the nursing team supporting professionally qualified staff in providing quality care for patients in roles, which are mainly related to direct patient care.

Direct delivery of high-quality patient care ensuring that the dignity and privacy needs of patients are met.

Documentation of care provided using digital systems.

Overseeing of the maintenance of a clean, welcoming and therapeutic environment.

Job responsibilities

Key Duties:

To accompany patients where clinical support is indicated

To chaperone patients as required

To undertake basic observations, Temperature, Pulse, Blood Pressure, Respirations, height and weight, BMI and reporting/recording results to qualified staff.

To ensure that patients receive care appropriate to their needs.

To assist in the setting up and cleaning of clinic trolleys and disposal of clinical waste.

To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies.

To answer telephone calls and take messages informing appropriate persons of the call.

To assist in the transferring of patients using correct manual handling techniques and equipment as appropriate.

To report immediately to the nurse in charge any observed change in a patients condition or any concern expressed by a patient about nursing care or medical treatment.

Demonstrate knowledge of Health and Safety at work in order to maintain a safe environment.

To maintain professional/personal development.

Undertake mandatory and local training appropriate to the role.

To act always in a manner which promotes positive working relationships and maintains the professional image of the trust.

Communication and Relationships:

The Healthcare Assistants relationship with both staff and patients should be discreet, bearing in mind that all information regarding patients must be kept confidential.

Report to the nurse in charge of department matters of concern relating to patients and the department environment.

Answer the telephone, refer to appropriate person.

Be aware of the need to greet visitors to the department and ascertain the reason for their visit.

To ensure the privacy and dignity of patients at all times.

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of health and safety at work in order to maintain a safe environment.

To attend departmental meetings as appropriate.

General Duties:

Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the area and equipment as instructed and complete all necessary paperwork relating to this in line with Trust guidelines.

GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above, or equivalent

NVQ level 3 in care, or willingness to work towards Care certificate Venipuncture training
