Mechanical Maintenance Engineer - Food Manufacturing

Objective:
The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of equipment and machinery within a food manufacturing facility. This position focuses on mechanical systems, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and minimizing downtime to uphold productivity and product quality. The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards in a food manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment, including production lines, packaging machines, conveyors, motors, pumps, and other machinery.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime and production interruptions.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance tasks in a timely manner to ensure optimal functioning and efficiency of equipment.
  • Utilize maintenance management systems to document work orders, track repairs, and maintain detailed records of maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and engineering, to support operations and address maintenance-related concerns.
  • Participate in planning and executing equipment installations, upgrades, or modifications, ensuring adherence to applicable safety procedures and protocols.
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment, coordinating with procurement to ensure availability when needed.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and inspections to identify potential hazards, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and food manufacturing standards.
  • Provide training and guidance to production and maintenance staff on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices, technological advancements, and regulatory requirements related to mechanical systems in food manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, maintenance, and equipment upgrades.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred. Relevant certifications or equivalent work experience will also be considered.
  • Previous experience as a Maintenance Engineer in a food manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery commonly used in food production and packaging.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical issues, with an ability to implement effective solutions.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and practices to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and standards specific to food manufacturing, including HACCP, GMP, and OSHA requirements. (Desirable)
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for clear and concise documentation and interaction with team members.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, displaying a proactive and collaborative approach.
  • Flexibility to work on-call or during off-hours, if required, to address emergencies or urgent maintenance needs.

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8am-4pm
