An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Lecturer in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Physics within the Cardiovascular Division of the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI), Faculty of Medicine. The NHLI is at the forefront of the development of non-invasive magnetic resonance techniques to provide investigate the structure and function of the heart on a microscopic scale. These methodological developments have led to a raft of new insights into the microscopic underpinnings of cardiac contraction and its dysfunction in a wide range of heart diseases. We seek an experienced scientist with an in-depth knowledge of the physics underpinning MRI, cardiovascular imaging and diffusion-based methods to lead the development, validation and translation of diffusion cardiovascular magnetic resonance techniques. 


The successful applicant will be based within the cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) unit at the Royal Brompton Hospital, where they will join an established team of physicists, computer scientists, clinicians and technologists developing diagnostic and prognostic methods for routine clinical use. The post holder will be able to contribute to the delivery of outstanding research within NHLI, focusing on diffusion CMR. 

The appointee is expected to develop their own research programme in cardiovascular magnetic resonance physics with a strong focus on diffusion-based methods. 


You will develop a broad range of research within the field of diffusion cardiovascular magnetic resonanceYou will foster national and international scientific collaborations with other world-leading centres.You will teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.You will demonstrate excellent leadership skills with regards to individual performance, academic teams, the NHLI, Faculty, College, clinical teams, and when participating in national/international initiatives.

Essential requirements

PhD or equivalent in magnetic resonance physics.Extensive experience (commensurate with senior lecturer) in leading the development and validation of cardiovascular MRI techniques within research programs that have led to published papers and major presentations.Experience of Training Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.Be able to make a significant contribution to the management and leadership of the department.
