Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an existing team of Advanced Critical Care Practitioners (ACCPs) based on ICU across two acute sites in Cumbria to deliver advanced level care. The Trainee ACCP role involves undertaking a two year post-graduate Diploma delivered by Northumbria University with a third year to obtain a full MSc. On successful completion of the course, the applicant would be eligible to apply for Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine associate status. Pay band for training is for the duration of the three year course.

Excellent training and clinical support is provided by Consultant Intensivists, other Medical staff and existing ACCPs and uses a practical approach for clinical interventions underpinned by tutorials and competency based training.

The ACCP will be able to diagnose, manage and perform invasive interventions for critically ill patients and possess the ability to make high level clinical decisions.

The acute hospitals are located in North and West Cumbria and between two ICUs manage approximately 1200 patients per annum. There is a case mix which includes complex medical patients, emergency and elective surgery, orthopaedics and trauma and the stabilisation and transfer of specific cases to specialist centres

The applicant will be a registered degree level practitioner in nursing or an allied health profession with a minimum of four years' experience in a critical care environment.

Main duties of the job

Combined Intensive Care and High Dependency Unit.

Provision of adult intensive care, high dependency care and post anaesthetic care for elective and emergency patients across a range of medical and surgical specialities including, Renal, Cardiology, Orthopaedic, Multi-trauma, Facial-maxillary, Gastroenterology, Vascular, Neurological, Interventional radiology and Obstetric patients. Organ donation and retrieval service. Stabilisation and transfer of adult patients requiring more specialised intensive care neurological, trauma, burns, spinal injuries, cardiac and hepatic disease.

Paediatric Intensive Care .

Stabilisation and delivery of intensive care and or high dependency care for paediatric patients. Preparation and assistance in transfer of paediatrics to specialised paediatric unit if clinically indicated.
