Authentic Voice Coordinator | Covering Leicestershire | Part Time | £31,130 (pro-rata for part-time)

Our client is a domestic abuse and sexual violence charity, looking to build a team supporting survivors of domestic abuse to influence operational and strategic responses to abuse in Leicestershire.

The employer is looking for two posts, one working with adult survivors (18 hours per week) and one working with children and young people (16 hours per week).

Your main responsibilities

  • Lead the approach to Authentic Voice (AV) within this project using the SafeLives AV toolkit and principles ensuring the widest networks are engaged and participation mechanisms established to ensure we are listening to a diverse range of voices
  • To work as part of a wider project team to deliver a sustainable model for embedding child and adult survivors’ voices
  • To create spaces, opportunities and networks for survivors of domestic abuse from across the local area to share their lived experience in a variety of ways such as surveys, focus groups, forums and panels
  • To enable survivors to co-create the design, development and delivery of local policies and services intended to meet their needs
  • To work closely with the Local Authority to ensure survivor voice is embedded within the wider systems
  • To identify and help address the barriers that prevent people from being able to share their voice or access platforms which affect change. You will also provide individualised support according to the needs of survivors to enable engagement in this project
  • To provide information and options to enable the service user to make informed decisions, including information on:
    • safety planning
    • legal rights and remedies and introductions to appropriate professional legal services
    • welfare benefits
    • housing options
    • further education and leisure pursuits
    • To create and maintain accurate records
    • To promote the work of LWA and awareness of the issues of domestic abuse and sexual violence via a variety of educational and informative avenues
    • To maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality in all aspects of work, including the distribution and filing of correspondence and reports, in the maintenance of databases, or other computerized records, and in the preparation, recording and filing of statistical information
    • To attend LWA meetings to advise on service issues, report on developments and requirements, and contribute to discussions affecting the organization and its clients
    • To work as part of a team and contribute to the overall development of the Service
    • To maintain good working relationships and links with outside agencies and refer to specialist agencies where necessary. To develop and maintain a current awareness with regard to domestic abuse, e.g. through reading, training events and keeping up to date with current legislation affecting abused people
    • To undergo training (internal or external) as identified by self and/or the Line Manager
    • Where appropriate attend meetings, conferences and forums on behalf of LWA
    • To actively implement and adhere to all LWA policies and procedures at all times to ensure the smooth operation and control of the Service
    • To do all else to further the aims and objectives of the organization, and to assist its Directors, paid staff and volunteers to work to the highest standards of service provision for its clients

The essential qualities of an Authentic Voice Coordinator are:

  • Experience working in a paid or unpaid capacity with survivors of domestic abuse
  • An understanding of abuse and how this can affect individuals
  • Experience or understanding of working with diverse communities
  • Experience of working with volunteers and/or groups and a good working understanding of group dynamics
  • An understanding of safe, trauma-informed approaches to engaging with survivors of domestic abuse
  • Providing support on a one-to-one basis and facilitating meetings
  • An ability to work flexibly, as required, including evening and weekend work
  • Experience in using basic IT programmes, email and the internet
  • Using a range of communication tools and personal approaches to influence practice and policy
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at local and national level
  • Due to the remit of this work a satisfactory DBS is essential

What can you expect in return?

Posts will require the post holder to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Due to the remit of the organisation to provide services to vulnerable women and children, and hence the sensitive nature of the work roles of the organisation, only female applicants for posts are considered, in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Requirement (Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9 Part I).
