Advanced Teaching Assistant

Location: York, North Yorkshire

Start Date: September 2024
Salary: £23,114 to £23,893 per annum

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

  • The school currently works with students who have a wide range of additional needs, such as dyslexia, physical disabilities, issues with speech, language, and communication, conditions on the autism spectrum, more general learning difficulties, individuals with rare syndromes, impairments to hearing and vision, and attention deficit disorders.

Advanced Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized support plans for students with special needs.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, helping them to engage with the curriculum and develop essential life skills.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of targeted interventions and programs designed to improve students' emotional and mental well-being.
  • Assisting in creating and implementing educational resources and materials.
  • Assessing student progress and providing feedback to teachers and SENCOs.
  • Supervising students during activities, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
  • Contributing to the overall school community through active participation.

Advanced Teaching Assistant Requirements :

  • Relevant qualifications and certifications as a Teaching Assistant or a Degree related to Education or Psychology.
  • Proven experience working with secondary school students, particularly those with special needs.
  • Understanding of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
  • Passion for education and a genuine desire to make a difference.
  • Ability to adapt and work collaboratively in a dynamic educational environment.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and strategies for supporting students with SEN.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for a new one.
