CIEE London: Contemporary Britain Course Instructor, Fall Semester in London

The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is seeking an instructor to teach an in-person course entitled Contemporary Britain, for the CIEE Semester In London over the upcoming Fall.
Course description
This course challenges preconceived ideas about Britishness. Oxbridge, cricket on village greens, afternoon tea, the monarchy and rigid class structures have long shaped literature, art, and media. While these remain structural in British heritage, they do not capture the realities of contemporary Britain. Students examine a postcolonial, multicultural society that has voted to leave Europe. They analyze a centrist political and financial landscape focused on London and evaluates the impulse towards devolution that sees Scotland, Wales and the northern cities rejecting Westminster in favor of autonomy. Students will study Britain?s politics, ethnicities, education, and class systems and will appraise what labor strikes, public outrage, and media scandals tell us about contemporary Britain. In understanding how Contemporary Britain makes sense of itself, students will be able to evaluate its role in the globalized world of the Twenty-first century.
Course instruction takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays over a 13 week period. Each course comprises of 45 total hours of in person teaching. Our instructors also provide one office hour per week where they are available to meet students.
