Under 18 hourly rates: £6.40
18-20 hourly rates: £8.60
21-22 hourly rates: £11.44
23+ hourly rates: £12.00
Contract: Apprentice Fixed Term Contract (2 years)

Role specifics: Work towards Level 2 Production Chef qualification . GCSE’s (or equivalent) in Maths and English at grade C/grade 4 or above (or be expected to obtain these by September 2024) or must commit to achieving within the duration of the apprenticeship.
Please note that this role will require an enhanced DBS check

Please be aware that to be eligible for apprenticeship funding you must have a valid and eligible residency status along with the right to work in the UK; to qualify you have to have been a resident in the UK for at least the last 3 years and had permission granted by the UK government to live in the UK and this cannot have been for educational purposes only.

It is a strategic priority for Bolton Council to tackle high levels of unemployment amongst young people in the Bolton borough therefore priority will be given to applications from BL postcodes.

The Role
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic apprentice who is ready to embark on their initial working journey with Bolton Council. Our apprenticeship posts are designed to support and help you discover and enhance your unique skills and talents. Through hands on experience and personalised mentorship, you will gain the confidence and knowledge to excel in your chosen career path with us.

Don’t worry about experience; we are recruiting on passion and drive. This is an entry-level role that is ideal for a recent school or college leaver aiming to kickstart their career within Bolton Council.

Whilst working towards the successful completion of your apprenticeship programme, you will learn on the job. Based in one of our school kitchens, you will be assisting and supporting the preparation, cooking, and presentation of a wide range of dishes, including special dietary meals, following standard recipes. With the guidance of experienced colleagues, you will ensure that all food storage, handling, hygiene, preparation, and presentation complies with our high School Meals standards, and learn about our financial, ordering, stock control and staffing procedures. You will also assist the promotion of the service at special events such as parents’ evenings and theme days etc. to actively promote the uptake of school meals and healthy eating activities within a school.

About You

We are searching for an individual who is highly motivated with a desire to learn and develop in this apprenticeship role. The ideal candidate should be able to work effectively both within a team and independently. You will have good time management and communication skills along with basic computer literacy experience and have familiarity with the use of Microsoft Office. Catering experience is not essential as long as you are interested and willing to learn. If you are ready for the opportunity to make a difference, you might be just what we are looking for

Applicants must hold GCSE’s (or equivalent) in maths and English at grade C/grade 4 or above (or be expected to obtain these by September 2024) or must commit to achieving within the duration of the apprenticeship.

This is a developmental role, as part of this opportunity, you will work towards a Level 2 Production Chef Apprenticeship qualification and as such applicants must not already hold a catering/food production qualification or similar at level 2 or above
