DescriptionAFME engages with policymakers and regulators throughout Europe on all key aspects of sustainable finance regulation. Sustainable finance regulation is regulation which seeks to mobilise finance in support of sustainability goals and integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into business and investment decisions. This is a priority area for our members with numerous legislative, regulatory and other initiatives under way. Examples of current areas of focus include sustainability reporting, ESG bond and equity markets, the development of sustainable finance taxonomies, carbon markets, how banks should assess sustainability risks and how financial markets can support efforts to enhance and preserve biodiversity.

AFME’s members are committed to supporting the transition to a sustainable economy and the development of sustainable finance. AFME seeks to support this goal and engage with public and private sector stakeholders on behalf of its members.

We are seeking a Graduate to support all workstreams supporting the sustainable finance team (a Managing Director and a Manager) in analysing and responding to proposed regulation, developing thought leadership publications, supporting AFME events and advocacy with external stakeholders. The role provides an excellent starting point for a career at the intersection of sustainability policy and the financial sector.

  • This is a paid graduate programme
  • Duration: 12 months
  • Start date: September 2024

Key ResponsibilitiesSupport of the Sustainable Finance Team:
  • Assisting with the running of the Sustainable Finance Steering Committee (our lead member committee which steers AFME’s work on sustainable finance issues) and relevant working groups
  • Assisting with drafting consultation responses, briefing papers, presentations etc.
  • Participating in relevant events and meetings with external stakeholders, preparing notes
Contributing to AFME Publications & Events:
  • Supporting sustainable finance events e.g. webinars, conferences
  • Contributing to AFME publications e.g. thought leadership, reports, press releases, blogs etc. 
Monitoring & Analysing Developments & Proposals:
  • Keeping colleagues and members updated regarding key developments in the area of sustainable finance
  • Preparing briefings and analysis of reports and proposed regulation
  • Researching evolving areas of policy

Key Competencies & ExperienceEssential:
  • Interest in sustainability and financial services policy and regulation
  • Educated to undergraduate degree level
  • Self-motivation; willingness to learn and get involved 
  • Ability to analyse detailed documentation, identify key issues and produce effective summaries
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Fluency in oral and written English
 Desirable:
  • Some understanding of the EU and UK legislative processes, financial regulation and/or environmental or broader sustainability issues
  • Fluency in a European language other than English
