The Company recently reached their seed funding and this is now a crucial & exciting time for the business as we look to appoint a Naval Architect.

This role is highly autonomous and will see you influence and pioneer a new class of renewable energy to help combat climate change.


The Role

This role will work as part of the Vessel Design team, focusing on the general naval architecture design of the MVY energy yacht, working towards a groundbreaking first of its type deployment. Forming a key part in delivering for the vessel’s structural design, stability and raising the level of detail in the vessel design. this is a critical part of the design process and fundamental in the delivery of our business success.


Your Task

3-Month Deliverables:

·       Integral part of the structural design process for the MVY Energy Yacht, ensuring alignment with project timelines and milestones.

·       Feed into the vessel's weight book, tracking weight changes and ensuring accurate documentation.

·       Collaborate with the class to understand and document structural and safety requirements, initiating the initial scantling arrangements and midship section design to class rules.

 

6-Month Deliverables:

·       Complete calculations of global and local loads, ensuring structural integrity and compliance with safety standards.

·       Part of team coordinate with shipyards to define and manage cutting plans and implement structural changes efficiently.

·       Input into conversations with our structural consultants involved in integrating novel technologies such as sailing rigs, ensuring seamless integration with the overall structural design.

12-Month Deliverables:

·       Complete structural design elements, including the general naval architecture of the vessel, through detailed GA work and volumetric 3D modeling.

·       Document options to enhance environmental sustainability throughout the design and build stages, contributing to the vessel's 'greener' initiatives.

·       Identify and escalate risks or opportunities to the design team, accompanied by recommended solutions, to maintain project progress and structural integrity.

*Please note, this is a full-time, long-term role. This is not a fixed term contract.

Your Skills and Experience

Essential skills & experience:

·       Hold a Degree in Naval architecture or equivalent engineering degree with marine work experience.

·       Minimum of 2+ years relevant experience.

·       Experience in ship structures design and managing a ship weight book.

·       Experience working within a Ship Design team with preference on new build concept to build programmes

·       Knowledge of ship classification rules

·       Candidate must show an openness to embracing innovation & problem solving

 

Desirable Skills & Experience:

·       Understanding of vessel moments and stability implications ideally with multihull structural design

·       Experience with FEA software.

·       Strong understanding of a 3D software RHINO being preferred.

·       Exceptional communication skills, presentation skills and attention to detail.
