Teledyne e2v is a global leader in specialised components and subsystems for innovative solutions in medical, science, aerospace, defense, and industrial applications. The imaging sensors developed and tested at the Chelmsford site have been used on humanities most important space imaging missions. These include the Hubble Telescope, Keplar, GAIA, Mars Rovers, New Horizons, and Rosetta to name but a few.
Space Imaging is expanding its portfolio of projects to develop Front End Electronics (FEE) systems for Space applications. The systems will include a CMOS detector, FEE, an FPGA (design code in VHDL), and a Microprocessor (MCU) as a complete system. The new systems require high quality FPGA Designs to operate in Space with high reliability for 5-year long missions or longer.
Position Summary and Responsibilities:
Teledyne e2v are looking for a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join their Team. We are seeking a key individual working in a multi-disciplinary team comprising of electronics, FPGA, and embedded software engineers. Doing so will require acquiring an intimate knowledge of how our current and new devices operate along with the practical ability to write embedded software code and drive new embedded software (firmware) development for the next generation of FEE products for space. The existing SW is typically produced using Microchip’s MPLAB-X IDE and is written in C, following MISRA C coding standards.
The Engineer will provide bid and business development support in collaboration with other team members.
This level of support will include reviewing and specifying technical proposals, conducting trade off analysis, and supplying estimates for effort, development time and material cost.
Essential Experience:
5+ year industrial experience as an embedded software engineer using C for reliability software.
Experience developing bare-metal embedded software for 32-bit ARM processors (SAM Microchip, STM32).
Software development to MISRA C coding standards and guidelines
Good understanding of hardware interfaces, such as SPI, I2C and UART.
Embedded firmware development, deployed onto and interfacing with bespoke hardware.
Understanding of digital circuits and ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams.
Developing unit tests, bench testing and practical validation of software functionality and safety requirements
To generate accurate estimates and define tasks for software product delivery.
Authoring required documentation, including requirements specifications, detailed design documents, technical reports, test plans and reports, user manuals, work instructions, etc.
Issue tracking and version controls – Redmine, JIRA, GIT, SVN, or similar
Experience debugging embedded software applications.
Developing modular software architectures.
You will provide technical leadership to a small team of software engineers coaching and mentoring throughout end-to-end software development, maintenance, and lifecycle to achieve project goals to the required level of quality. You will work closely with FPGA, Electronics and Systems Engineers to architect solutions to meet customer requirements.
Advantageous Skills & Experience:
Previous experience in Aerospace/Space/Defense.
Working knowledgeable of ECSS standards and development processes.
Working knowledge of SpaceWire and RMAP or CCSDS protocol.
Experienced in developing Windows based test applications and scripts in C#, C++, Python or similar.
Working knowledge of MPLAB-X IDE and Microchip SAM32 ARM M7 processors (SAMRH71, ATSAMV71Q21).
Experience developing embedded software applications for cameras / imaging systems.
Use of electronic test equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, logic analyser)
