Teaching Personnel are working closely with a coeducational day and boarding, senior school and sixth form located in South Downs countryside of West Sussex, seeking cover supervisors from September 2024.  The school was graded ‘GOOD’ with ‘OUTSTANDING’ features during their most recent Ofsted visit, with inspectors commenting that ‘Students make exceptional progress.  They develop social and independent skills as well as academic success’.  Due to the rural location of the school, applicants with access to their own vehicle would be preferred, due to the limited public transport links.

The role:

Cover supervisors are key to the effectiveness of the school. The role involves supervising whole classes during the absence of a teacher, providing short term cover, and helping the students with their learning. Cover supervisors often get involved in the heart of the school and are familiar and trusted faces around the school.  This includes tutor time as well as subject lessons.  The position is suitable for an individual who is confident in working with young people and making a difference. Working as a Cover Supervisor is a fantastic opportunity to gain school-based experience to pursue a career in teaching, this opportunity would suit a Graduate or a candidate who is confident with classroom management and behaviour.  The role may also be suitable for qualified teachers who would like to move to a non-teaching role, or those returning to work. 

Main duties of a cover supervisor:

• To supervise pupils, receiving and registering students, communicating and supervising the work set to the pupils, responding to any questions.
• Managing the behaviour of pupils and classroom.
• Collecting books and equipment at the end of lessons, returning work and resources to the subject team, informing the subject team of the point reached by pupils.
• To assist with supervision of pupils during their lunch break, escorting pupils between sites as and when required. To assist with the supervision of pupils on visits and outside activities as required.
• To cover for the Cover Manager in their planned and unexpected absence
