The Role:

As a SENCO, you will be responsible for overseeing the provision for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) within the school. This role involves coordinating SEN support, working with teachers and support staff, and ensuring that all students with SEN have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. While previous experience as a SENCO is desirable, it is not essential; what is most important is a passion for inclusive education and a commitment to supporting students with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordination: Oversee the day-to-day operation of the school's SEN policy and the provision made for students with SEN.
  • Support: Work closely with teachers to identify students’ needs, develop effective support strategies, and ensure that Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are in place.
  • Communication: Liaise with parents, external agencies, and other professionals to ensure that students receive comprehensive support.
  • Training: Provide guidance and training for staff on SEN issues and best practices.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor the progress of students with SEN, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, and adjust strategies as necessary.
  • Compliance: Ensure the school’s SEN provision meets statutory requirements and best practice guidelines.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., QTS) is essential.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with SEN students is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of SEN legislation and best practices in supporting students with SEN.
  • Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Passion for SEN: A genuine commitment to inclusive education and supporting students with diverse needs.
  • DBS Check: An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.
