We are looking to appoint a Paediatric Oncology Outreach Nurse Specialist to join our friendly team at the Children’s Hospital. The post involves working autonomously to provide direct nursing care to children with cancer in their own home within the Oxfordshire region. The team work closely alongside the Oxfordshire community nursing team to provide care for patients in their home.

Main duties of the job

Provide a nursing service to children and young people with malignant haematological / oncological conditions and their families / carers within the home setting as follows:

Manage a caseload of patients / families within Oxfordshire Provide nursing care for children with cancer at home including administering chemotherapy, blood tests, Central line care, family education and support, school visits, GP visits, palliative and end of life care. Actively work in partnership with patients, parents and users of the service that includes ensuring that parents/carers are confident and competent in caring for their child at home and monitoring the children through assessment and blood sample analysis To work confidently and competently both as a lone worker and within a team, both in the hospital and within the home setting, including the admission and discharge of patients to own caseload, providing assessment, delivery and evaluation of planned care Provide telephone advice and support to families throughout all stages of treatment Act as a patient and family advocate and co-ordinate the provision of patient care Attend and contribute to Multi-Disciplinary team meetings, eg, Solid Tumour and Lymphoma meeting, Holistic Needs Assessment meeting, Paediatric Oncology / Haematology business meeting, Clinical Care meeting, Morbidity and Mortality meeting Support the Nursing Lead for Paediatric Oncology to meet the requirements of this role.
