Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Physiotherapy role at Holywell Neurological Rehabilitation Unit, Langley House, Watford.

Holywell is a rehabilitation unit serving patients in the West Hertfordshire area. The caseload is mainly people with Stroke, but also other complex neurological conditions.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and dynamic Physiotherapist to share the leadership of a team of Therapists and Rehabilitation Assistants alongside the band 7 Occupational Therapist. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping patients to improve their quality of life and who can collaborate well with the team.

You will be working with a dedicated multidisciplinary team and your role will also involve supporting and developing junior staff and students.

As a developing service, there are ample opportunities for service development, building supervision and leadership competencies. Formal development and training opportunities are available through the CLCH Academy. Close links are maintained with the other bed based rehabilitation units and neuro services within Hertfordshire to support service development and share learning.

This post is hours a week - part time or flexible hours will be considered . There is seven-day working on the unit. The weekend rota is expected to be 1:6.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to:

Be an active member of the neuro rehabilitation multi-disciplinary team on Holywell Ward

Provide highly specialist assessments and treatments of patients who require specialist neuro rehabilitation

Take a lead role for physiotherapy on the neuro rehabilitation unit working closely with the, clinical therapy lead, Matron and other senior members of the multidisciplinary team

Provide the supervision and line management of junior staff, including rotational staff, rehabilitation assistants and students

Work within professional standards and clinical guidelines, promoting best practice and undertaking all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner

Ensure a high standard of physiotherapy practice on the unit

Support self and staff development through active participation in continuing professional development (CPD) and by participating in research or audit being undertaken by the service

Education/Qualification

Essential

Educated to degree level with appropriate post graduate qualification Evidence of CPD relevant to the treatment of people with physical disabilities relevant to the caseload of patients Current HCPC registration

Desirable

Membership of CSP Member of Interest groups Training in appraisal/supervision Post graduate qualification in specialist area at a masters or equivalent level, eg, management of upper limb or Bobath normal movement training etc

Experience

Essential

Appropriate clinical experience post registration (including 2 years post graduate experience at Senior level working in neurology and neuro-rehabilitation) Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team Experience of supervising staff and / or students NHS experience Experience in teaching /training

Desirable

Experience of research and clinical audit Experience of working with social services Experience in setting up and running activity based group programme

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

Advanced skills in the assessment and treatment of people with complex multi-pathologies Ability to apply core Physiotherapy skills across a range of clinical conditions within a client centred, goal setting approach, Experience of spasticity management, orthotics and casting Ability to problem solve, prioritise and demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning Presentation skills appropriate for teaching of junior staff, students & peers within an in-service training setting and the Wider Trust as needed Theoretical and working knowledge of holistic models of PT practice and skills in group work and teaching Knowledge of outcome measures and evidence based practice associated with people with physical disabilities Knowledge and understanding of relevant NICE and clinical guidelines

Desirable

Knowledge of research and audit processes Knowledge and understanding of the role of social services and voluntary agencies
