This is an exciting time within North Yorkshire Council Educational Psychology service as we drive a period of considerable change. We are a small but growing team within the Council. We are looking for innovative, and solution-orientated psychologists to join us in shaping the direction of our educational psychology service into the future. With a commitment to growing the EP team even further there are opportunities within each of our four localities.

We are expanding our offer vianew funding streams into more proactive/targeted work developed through theDelivering Better Value projects. Our vision, supported by leadership, is todevelop a creative educational psychology offer, underpinned by consultation,empowering others and sustainability.

Main duties of the job

Currently our role includes workingwith our inclusive, additionally resourced settings that are an integral partof identified mainstream schools to embed consistent, inclusive practices. Thesesettings are currently referred to as Targeted Mainstream Provision, TMPs.Support to these settings will be mainly systemic, although casework will alsobe provided.

To be successful you must be creative and forward thinking psychologistwith the knowledge, skills, enthusiasm and willingness to use psychologicalframeworks to facilitate positive change. You must have a masters or doctoratelevel qualification in Educational Psychology and be registered with the HCPC.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Provide strategic direction and support to SENCOswithin schools including analysis of professional development needs locally,supporting the delivery of all phase SENCo networks.

Contribute to the development of a county wideworkforce development framework for SEND and Inclusion.

Work directly with schools and settings to embedconsistent inclusive practices and the early identification and intervention ofchildren and young people with additional needs.

Provide appropriate support, challenge andescalation to schools causing concern.

Taking a significant role in team around the schoolapproaches as required.

To support the creation and development of linkswith local communities.

Actively seeking opportunities for transformation ofservices and provision to meet needs of children and young people and ensurecost effectiveness.

Maintain effective networks with localityprofessionals across agencies to promote effective working practice andstrategic planning.

Know your role as a Psychologist in supporting and promotingchild development.

Understand and explain behaviour in the context inwhich it arises.

Understand or know where to find out about physical,medical, sensory or other within-child conditions and their implications forliving and learning.

Observe, analyse, respond and then record in asuitable manner.

Identify transition points and provide services thathelp to minimise the disruption.

Provide support to children, young people and theirfamilies where necessary.

Bring services to children, minimising changes ofcase holder and onward referrals.

These posts are suitable for educational psychologists at any stage in their career, including those due to qualify in September 2024.

Desirable

We welcome applications from experienced educational psychologists, Year 3 and Year 2 trainee educational psychologists.

You must have a masters or doctorate level qualification in Educational Psychology and be registered with the HCPC.

Essential

In depth knowledge of current guidance and legislation Knowledge of statutory requirements, including requirements in respect of Data protection and Freedom of Information Experience of successfully working as an EP.

Desirable

Knowledge and understanding of Local Authority policy, procedures and political context; Experience of supervising or appraising staff; Experience of the management of resources, including human and financial resources; Has demonstrable skills in planning for service delivery; Able to evidence successful practice in assuring quality of service delivery and practice.
