Job overview

We are recruiting for a Healthcare Science Assistant who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic individual with good communication skills to join our small, friendly Nuclear Medicine team. You must have a flexible approach to working and be able to work closely with a range of healthcare professionals.

For the right candidate, this post can be offered with a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Medical Physics or Level 6 Healthcare Science Practitioner (Nuclear Medicine).

The Nuclear Medicine Department at The Mount Vernon Cancer Centre provides a diagnostic and therapeutic clinical nuclear medicine service to patients using sources of radioactivity.

The Department also operates a radiopharmacy that manufactures radiopharmaceuticals for the Cancer Centre and other hospitals in North West London, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

In addition, you will receive a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,314 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata.

Our Values are Include, Respect and Improve. It is important that you understand and refer to our values during your recruitment process and beyond

Main duties of the job

As a Healthcare Science Assistant in the Nuclear Medicine you will be involved in:

  • Supporting the delivery of radionuclide therapies for cancer patients
  • The day to day operation of a small two bedroom annex that is used for in-patient therapy and this will include laundering linen and some cleaning duties
  • Assisting our radiographers and technologists with diagnostic scans and tests
  • Working in our radiopharmacy supporting the team that manufacture radiopharmaceuticals
  • Working in our reception, answering the telephone and directing enquiries to the appropriate person and assisting with tracking patient notes and filing

Your working day will be very varied and full training will be given.

This post is an ideal introduction to healthcare science practice and you are encouraged to come and look around the Nuclear Medicine Department as the role is unusual.
