Director of Finance (Scottish Forestry)

Job description

Director of Finance

Scottish Forestry (SF) is an executive agency of the Scottish Government. We are responsible for the development of forest policy on behalf of Scottish ministers, regulation, support and the delivery of the forest grant activities of Scottish Government. We work with a range of partners and stakeholders both at Scotland and UK level, including other forest bodies.

The Agency has a budget of £70.1m for 2024/2025 and employs circa 230 staff, including technical and professional forestry specialists. The Agency has an ambitious programme of change and improvement, while navigating the challenges within public sector finances.

This is an exciting newly created senior finance role, reporting to the Agency’s Chief Executive Paul Lowe. You will demonstrate inspiring leadership to a team of 11 Finance, procurement and Business Support professionals. You will develop productive relationships with Scottish Government Finance and policy officials, Ministers, Special Advisers and other external Agencies and Bodies in relation to Spending Reviews, budget allocations, management and performance.

You will play a key role as part of the Agency’s Senior Executive Team (SET) and Strategic Advisory Board, as well as providing updates and advice to our Audit and Assurance Committee. You will be responsible for leading on financial governance and demonstrate sound judgement in relation to financial matters and managing risk. Encouraging innovation and creativity you will explore and secure opportunities for income generation and savings, supporting colleagues to do likewise.

We are strongly committed to creating an inclusive and supportive work culture and welcome applications from everyone regardless of background. We are looking to increase the diversity of our workforce and are particularly interested to hear from under-represented groups which for SF includes women at senior grades, and those from ethnic minority backgrounds.
