About us

We work with children, young people and their families who are known to the Local Authority. The children we support have experienced neglect, abuse, trauma, loss and many have had a number of adverse childhood experiences. We use a range of attachment and trauma/recovery approaches in assessment, formulation and to guide our interventions. Our aim is to improve outcomes (including stability, attachment security, trauma recovery and permanence) for children from vulnerable groups. We are trauma-informed and are curious to understand what has happened to children (and their families) from a psychological perspective. The social care teams we support, value psychology highly and welcome our input and we are being encouraged to expand.

Job description

Job responsibilities

We have two new posts to recruit to;

1. A FTE Clinical Psychologist working in our Therapeutic Parenting Stream with children in care; The role involves some direct work with children and young people but is predominately focused on supporting the carers, Social Workers and other professionals involved (through consultation and training) to think psychologically about the children they support. We also offer evidence-based intervention groups to carers.

2. A FTE Clinical Psychologist working in our Adolescent Stream with care-leavers and separated children seeking asylum. The role involves some direct work with young people but is predominately focused on supporting those in the network around them (including Social Workers, Personal Advisors, Placements, Education, Employment, Support Workers, Police and other relevant professionals) to understand the presentation of young people from a psychological perspective and enable those around the young person to gain skills to support them in their trauma recovery. This work also involves working between Child and Adult services, managing risk dynamically with young people and the systems around them as well as working creatively with agencies to support separated children seeking asylum to navigate the immigration system, settle into a new country, build connections and managing the effects of trauma.

The posts offer exciting opportunities to join a highly experienced and supportive multi-disciplinary team of Clinical Psychologists and Post Abuse Counsellors. Our team are happy in their work and are supported with relational-based, trauma-informed leadership. The team is part of Education & Community Health within the Together for Families Directorate of Cornwall Council with close links to Specialist CAMHS and the voluntary sector.

The role is county wide and subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.
