Edinburgh, United Kingdom Public Health Scotland Full time

Nurse Consultant

About the Organisation:
Public Health Scotland launched 1st April 2020 as a national health board, employing around 1200 people, and with an annual budget of around £101 million. Public Health Scotland wants to see a Scotland where everybody thrives, a Scotland where life expectancy improves and the difference in life expectancy between our poorest and wealthiest areas gets smaller.

Public Health Scotland is Scotland’s lead national agency for improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of all of Scotland’s people. Our vision is of a Scotland where everybody thrives. Our focus is on increasing healthy life expectancy and reducing premature mortality. To do this, we use data, intelligence and a place based approach to lead and deliver Scotland’s public health priorities.

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

The role of the Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate is to protect the people of Scotland from infectious and environmental hazards; enable high-quality clinical and public health knowledge, research, and innovation; and change clinical and public health practice by using audits at a national and local level.
Public Health Scotland, through the Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate, has the national leadership, coordination and oversight of national and local service delivery, including continuous improvement of immunisation programmes in Scotland.

The Post:
The Clinical Protecting Health Directorate are seeking to appoint a Nurse Consultant for the Vaccination and Immunisation Division (VAID). As a nurse consultant your main roles will include:
• providing leadership to the overall delivery of a high quality, safe and effective vaccination and immunisation programme.
• providing leadership in the development of key vaccination and immunisation relationships with a wide range of individuals and stakeholders.
• collaborating closely with other organisations, such as Scottish Government, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES), local NHS Boards and other relevant partners to ensure clear priorities are identified, work plans established, and joint working practices promoted.
• being a source of specialist knowledge on vaccination and immunisation, and providing support, supervision, and advice to colleagues and line management to relevant staff as appropriate; and
• leading and contributing to the development and delivery of teaching resources and research activities on vaccination and immunisation.
You will be part of wider team working across Public Health Scotland (PHS), and with other key stakeholders, that will be concerned with maximising the population benefits of vaccination and immunisation and reducing health inequalities while meeting the needs of individuals and groups.

The Candidate:
The postholder will work with the VAID clinical lead and will lead across the programme, collaborating with colleagues both internal and external.
You will have strong communications skills, experience of partnership working and experience in vaccination and immunisation services.
