Job summary

As a Specialist Nurse for Complex Safeguarding, you will lead and support co-ordinating the delivery of services, to meet the health needs of children and young people identified as being at risk or at potential risk of harm from complex safeguarding issues. You will be an autonomous practitioner who will offer specialist knowledge and advice.

You will lead on communication and information sharing with wider health colleagues, lead on the development and delivery of complex safeguarding training and will contribute to organisation and multi-agency training as required.

The role will allow the right candidate to consolidate their previous knowledge and expertise, transferring this into a specialist role with an active caseload. The role will allow the successful candidate to build strong relationships across the Partnership to improve outcomes for our children and young people.

This role is varied and will challenge you to think outside the box to best support the children and young people on your caseload, all whilst developing your knowledge and skills in complex and contextual safeguarding.

As a Specialist Nurse, you will work alongside the Specialist Safeguarding Nurses, Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) Health Practitioners, the Specialist Nurse for Looked After Children (LAC), 0-19 Services and the Youth Justice Nurse to identify children who may have links across those services and plan their care based on who is best placed to support them.

Main duties of the job

Managing a defined caseload of children and young people identified as being victims of or at risk of complex safeguarding concerns Contributing to strategic planning regarding complex safeguarding of children and young people Facilitate the development of knowledge and skills of health staff in relation complex safeguarding inclusive of child criminal & sexual exploitation and human trafficking, so that appropriate packages of care can be provided and the safeguarding needs of these service users are met To be the link health professional for the complex safeguarding team in relation to current contextual safeguarding issues and the health economy. In conjunction with the Multi-Agency Complex Safeguarding Team and Northern Care Alliance Safeguarding Teams, develop and deliver training packages regarding complex safeguarding of children and young people for health staff Facilitate safeguarding supervision for health staff who hold caseload responsibility for children through a recognised restorative model. Raise awareness of the services offered by the Complex Safeguarding Team and other agencies so that health staff can support service users in accessing the team. To promote children's equality, diversity and human rights by recognising, respecting and supporting cultural and spiritual beliefs Administer medication or vaccines under patient group directions as appropriate Provide contraceptive advice and services as appropriate

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as a Registered Nurse or Midwifein the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their fullNMC Pin within the next 2-3 months. Registered General Nurse Have completed specific training in the care of babies / children and young people. Have completed a post registration training in LAC/ safeguarding children including Law, Policy and Practice at post graduate level. Have substantial safeguarding experience at Band 6 or above. Extensive experience related to caring for babies / children / young people and have an understanding of forensic matters. Experience of participating and undertaking audits. Experience of participating in undertaking and providing clinical and safeguarding supervision.

Desirable

Specialist Community Public Health Nurse qualification Leadership or management course Working towards Masters qualification in safeguarding or related subject or equivalent experience. Experience of dealing with safeguarding adult incidents. Development of safeguarding pathways, standards and service models. Safeguarding Supervision Skills training

Expertise in child health development and maltreatment. Experience in dealing with highly contentious and emotive information and advising on management of sensitive cases.
