About the role

Royal Free London Library Services (RFLLS) support staff and students from the UCL School of Life and Medical Sciences (SLMS), and from the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, working and studying across the Royal Free London Hospitals. Both the School and the Hospital have a long tradition of innovation and excellence in medical education, research, and clinical practice.

The RFLLS libraries provide a mixture of quiet and group working spaces, and computing and teaching areas for both organisations. RFLLS also facilitates access to an extensive range of online information resources and delivers a programme of library and information skills training for individuals and groups.

The Clinical Support Librarian is a member of the RFLLS team, providing services to UCL School of Life and Medical Sciences and Royal Free London Trust staff and students. Key elements of the role are:
• Assisting clinical staff in identifying and accessing the best available evidence to support patient care through delivering the Clinical Effectiveness Enquiry Service (CEES)
• Contributing to the provision of information services in support of effective healthcare practice, including taking support outside of the library
• Contributing to the range of services delivered by the RFLLS Team, including a programme of information skills training as well as the development and implementation of a local research support strategy

The Clinical Support Librarian is principally based at the Royal Free Hospital Medical Library, but will also be required to liaise with relevant clinical service groups and committees, including in the clinical setting, both virtually and through visits to other Royal Free London Trust sites.

The post is part of the RFLLS management team, with line management responsibility for one member of staff, and an important role in planning and setting priorities for the service, and in measuring and reporting on the impact of RFLLS services.

The Clinical Support Librarian works closely with the Evidence Services Librarian, and the Barnet Hospital Librarian, to manage and deliver RFLLS training, searching and enquiry services.

This role is eligible for hybrid working, with a minimum of 60% of time spent on site.

This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.

About you

We are looking for candidates who in particular have the following experience and skills:
• Significant up-to-date relevant experience working in a health or medical library, especially experience of providing information support for evidence-based practice.
• Experience of providing training in the use of healthcare knowledge, and reference management, resources, including designing courses
• Experience of conducting mediated searches to support clinical practice and research.
