Terms of Reference (TOR) for OracleCloud (OCI) Exadata & DB Engineer
Objective:
The purpose of this TOR isto define the roles responsibilities and qualifications requiredfor the Oracle Cloud Exadata Administrator. This position iscritical for managing Oracle Exadata environments within OracleCloud Infrastructure (OCI) leveraging OCI Command Line tools DevOpspractices and ensuring all systems are uptodate with the latestpatches.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Database Management:
- Install configure and maintain Oracle ExadataDatabase.
- Ensure high availability and optimalperformance of Oracle databases.
- Managedatabase security including user access and encryption.
- CloudOperations:
- Utilize OCI to managecloud resources effectively.
- Automate routinedatabase administrative tasks using OCI Command Line Interface(CLI) and scripts.
- Monitor and optimize theperformance of cloud resources ensuring cost efficiency.
- OCI Exadata PatchingActivities:
- Schedule and implementregular OCI Exadata patching in line with Oracles release scheduleto ensure security and performance enhancements areapplied.
- Test patches in a nonproductionenvironment to verify functionality before widespreaddeployment.
- Coordinate with IT and networkteams to ensure minimal downtime and compliance with SLAs duringpatching windows.
- Document patching activitiesincluding prepatching checks impact analysis patch application andpostpatching tests.
- DevOps Integration:
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for database codeand schema changes to improve reliability and speed ofdeployments.
- Work closely with developmentteams to ensure database operations integrate seamlessly withoverall DevOps workflows.
- Utilize moderncontainerization and orchestration technologies to enhancescalability and manageability.
- Backup and Recovery onOCI:
- Implement and manage comprehensive backup procedures forall database systems.
- Regularly test recoveryprocesses to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Optimize backup operations using OCI features and toolsto ensure data redundancy and quick accessibility.
- Disaster Recovery andOracle Data Guard:
- Develop and maintain a disaster recovery plan thatincludes Oracle Data Guard for realtime data protection andfailover capabilities.
- Configure and manageData Guard to ensure high availability and disaster recovery acrossdifferent geographical locations.
- Conductregular DR drills to ensure the effectiveness of the disasterrecovery procedures and adjust as necessary.
- Project Management:
- Lead planning and execution of databaseupgrade and migration projects.
- Communicateeffectively with project stakeholders providing updates andresolving issues promptly.
- Prepare andmaintain comprehensive documentation for all managed systems andprocedures.
- Bachelorsdegree in computer science Information Technology or relatedfield.
- Extensive experience as an OracleExadata Administrator and OCI certification
- Strong proficiency with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure andOCI Command Line Interface.
- Demonstratedexperience with patch management processes and best practices forOracle Exadata.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools(e.g. Jenkins Git Azure DevOps) and methodologies.
- Relevant certifications in Oracle Database and OracleCloud Infrastructure are highly desirable.
