Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, courteous and friendly Healthcare Assistant to provide a range of healthcare services to our patients. Theindividual will join our fantastic team on a full-time basis of This is a rewarding role which will enable the individual to help keep our community healthy and safe.

This is a challenging role for which we require a self-starter, someone who is looking for a fast-paced working environment.

Main duties of the job

The candidate must be able to work as part of the team whilst utilizing their own initiative to manage their own workload and implement improvements within the team/wider practice. Additionally, they should be able to communicate Practice processes to patients effectively and in line with Practice policies.

They should be able to build a rapport with patients and healthcare professionals, ensuring the practice provides services in a timely and efficient manner.

be able to communicate effectively and empathetically in person, over the phone and via electronic means be proficient with computers in order to complete administrative functions be willing to adapt, develop and learn in an ever-changing NHS landscape be able to work proactively. be able to remain calm and focused under pressure

Roxbourne Medical Centre is a purpose-built medical centre providing safe and effective healthcare for over 7,400 of its local residents. In addition to our in-house services, we provide a large range of services to the residents of Harrow.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

NHS Health Checks

Diabetes Health Checks

Diabetes Foot Checks

Referrals to health trainers and other community based services

Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

Review patient data to work with the nursing team, to achieve focused patient healthcare

Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximeter, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately

Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

Active participation in achieving QOF and Enhanced Services targets via clinics and recall demands

Delivery of specialist clinics, evidence-based practice for patients with long-term conditions, management and preventative HCA interventions to all patients.

Carry out BMI checks as directed

Act as a chaperone as required

Phlebotomy

Participate and administer vaccination and immunisation programmes for both Children and Adults

Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

Ensure safe storage and administration of medicines and treatments, according to local and national policy

Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

Take fridge temperature as per requirement

Carry out stock take and order stock as and when required

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

Qualifications

Essential

Have an up to date HCA certificate Good standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy skills Up to date certificate and training in phlebotomy

Desirable

Experience of working in a healthcare setting/ GP practice Experience in Paediatric phlebotomy

Ability to provide quality care Good interpersonal and communication skills Good IT skills with spreadsheets
