Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Nurse Endoscopist to join the expanding Bowel Cancer Screening team at the Northern Care Alliance (NCA).

With a base at Fairfield General Hospital, the successful candidate will undertake Bowel Cancer Screening Endoscopy lists across the JAG and BCSP accredited NCA Endoscopy sites of: Fairfield General, Rochdale Infirmary & Royal Oldham Hospitals, with a future aspiration to deliver Endoscopy via the local Community Diagnostic Centre.

This role requires an independentpractitioner, who will provide advanced clinical expertise and pathway management knowledge.

The post holder will provide expert clinical skills and advice, demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to the identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of the participants of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP).

Main duties of the job

As part of this role, you will undertake consent, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of individuals participating within the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.

You will, provide independent diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including recognising, managing and treating lesions within the colon and rectum.

You will, be responsible for the efficient and effective delivery of BCSP endoscopy, working with other members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT). You will provide cross cover for other Endoscopists to ensure adequate provision for the Bowel Cancer Screening and Endoscopy services.

Working as a BCSP/Endoscopy Nurse Endoscopist, you will use your expertise, experience, professional and clinical judgement and knowledge in all aspects of the role.

You will lead and actively engage in audit and research related to the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening programme.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

Person Specification

Experience, Skills, Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge of lower and upper gastrointestinal and colorectal disease Skilled in Endoscopic procedures (Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy and Gastroscopy) Previous experience as a Nurse Endoscopist Significant post-registration experience Evidence of ability to manage difficult clinical situations as an independent Endoscopist Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development Demonstrate a knowledge of the speciality including JAG and BSG guidelines. Sound judgement in identifying and ordering diagnostic tests/interventions. History taking and consent Perform Level 2 Polypectomy Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Leadership skills Demonstrates ability and knowledge on how to undertake audit and feedback to clinicians Ability to work flexibly across the Endoscopy sites in the NCA footprint Hold a current and valid driving license and have access to a vehicle to enable travel between NCA sites

Desirable

Skilled in all 3 Endoscopic procedures Evidence of presentations at local, regional and national level Demonstrate involvement of PGD's, guidelines and protocols Evidence of participation in research projects Performs Screening Colonoscopy Level 3 Polypectomy

Qualifications

Essential

Registration with the NMC Post basic qualification to minimum diploma/degree standard or equivalent level gained by experience in Gastroenterology or Endoscopy Bowel Cancer Screening Accreditation (BCSA) or has the required criteria to apply for accreditation JAG (Joint Advisory Group) Accredited Colonoscopist Recognised teaching qualification

Desirable

Train the Trainer for endoscopy Speciality related masters degree Completed conscious sedation module Non-medical prescribing qualification Completed course/module in research methods
