The Role:

This role plays a very important part within Economy, Localities and Public Health (ELPH) and wider Essex County Council structures to the Council’s aspiration to become an outcome focused and evidence-based commissioning authority.

The Wellbeing and Public Health Apprentice is a developmental role, offering the opportunity to undertake a three-year programme of placements throughout the Wellbeing, Public Health and Communities Service, gaining a broad base of experience and achieving a qualification.

This role will be responsible for supporting the delivery of effective programmes of work within the defined Wellbeing and Public Health work programme to ensure outcome-based commissioning and community development of the Wellbeing, Public Health and Communities agenda.

An important facet of the role will be working effectively with others across ECC, stakeholders and partners to deliver a new, more flexible and collaborative approach.

This role will support a range of projects and activities by working on a number of thematic programmes and projects to meet strategic objectives.

As part of this role you will be upskilled via a . Study will be online from Bristol University to achieve BSc (Hons) Public Health / Public Health Practitioner. The course length is 36 months plus 3 months for End Point Assessment.

Essential Requirements for the role:

GCSE Grade C/4 in English and Maths (or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths) Educated to A level standard or equivalent by experience (equivalent to at least 112 UCAS tariff points) Interest in Public Health or related activity service/function area Good communication skills with the ability to work with others to achieve tasks and deliver results Applicants must also meet the ESFA eligibility requirements. These are to: be aged 16 years or over be an EEA citizen (with Right to Work and Study in the UK) and not be in any other kind of full-time education (including being enrolled on any other apprenticeship programme) Have been ordinarily resident in the UK or EEA for three years before the apprenticeship start date A driver license is not essential, however candidates must have the ability travel around the county occasionally Be available for in-person at County Hall, Chelmsford the week commencing 8th July

In this situation evidence of recent study at a suitable, recognised Level 3 qualification or equivalent alongside a profile of relevant experience

What will you be doing?

Fulfil a planned programme of job placements within the Wellbeing, Public Health and Communities Service. Meet all required criteria at the end of each placement for progression Build a strong understanding of how to access and use the evidence base, conduct research and provide informed advice measure, monitor and report population health and wellbeing; health needs, risks, and inequalities; and the use of services Supports senior officers and managers to ensure that prioritised activities are planned, and delivered in terms of, capacity and capability, to a high standard. To design and manage programmes and projects to improve health and reduce health inequalities Works with a range of staff and senior managers in Wellbeing, Public Health and Communities and across ECC, partners and stakeholders, promote population and community health and wellbeing, addressing the wider determinants of health and health inequalities Work in collaboration with partner organisations to deliver integrated activity and ensure highlights any further opportunities and efficiencies that can achieved Support the delivery of specific projects and activities that further the continuous improvement ethos of high performing, sustainable and cost-effective services or place shaping activities and develop cross functional links Supports the development of, and use, of a range of tools and techniques that ensure activity is consistent, effective and efficient and that an audit trail is maintained Contributes to new challenges and opportunities ensuring that risks and opportunities are identified and managed which comply with all external and internal regulation: supporting responses to calls for contributions to the consultation process Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework
