Job summary

Here at Derian House we are looking to recruit Registered Paediatric Nurses.

To workas part of an integrated team, alongside a wider multi-disciplinary teamrespecting the skills, expertise and contributions of others in the provisionof holistic care and support to Babies, Children, Young People (BCYP) and theirfamilies using Derian House.

To beresponsible for the assessment of the BCYPs care needs, including thedevelopment, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

Toassist in the management and organisation of work as required by the Care TeamLeader, ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times and toprovide support for junior staff within the hospice team.

To playa key role in the supervision and assessment of designated staff as required,undertaking the role of mentor and acting as a named supervisor.

Main duties of the job

Ensurethat care for babies, children and young adults is person centered, assessed,planned, delivered and evaluated respecting babies, children and young peoplesdaily routines and promoting independence as far as possible.

To beresponsible for providing safe and effective care in line with the hospicesoperating procedures and guidelines and act as a resource for all members ofthe multi-disciplinary team providing specialist professional, care andsupport.

To beresponsible for improving and maintaining the physical and mental health of thebabies, children and young people.Ensure barriers to achieving this are reduced wherever possible andappropriate.

Toadapt the delivery of care according to the emotional, physical andenvironmental demands.

Toparticipate in the primary assessment for newly referred children.

Torefer to the Team Leader for advice/guidance during a shift as and whenrequired

To beresponsible and accountable for the safe administration of medicines within thehospice on a shift basis ensuring medicine management policies and proceduresare adhered to as per NMC guidelines.

Derian House is rated Outstanding by the CQC; Derian House provides symptom management, palliative and end-of-life care, as well as short break respite care to babies, children, young people and their families with life limiting conditions across Lancashire, South Cumbria and Greater Manchester. Job responsibilities

Ensurethe respect, dignity and rights of babies, children, young adults and theirfamilies are upheld at all times.

Toundertake training as a supplementary and independent prescriber adhering toNMC Guidelines, if requested by the organisation.

To takean active role in the pursuit and promotion of quality through audit andresearch and participating in the hospice governance programme.

To beresponsible and accountable for the safe administration of medicines within thehospice on a shift basis ensuring medicine management policies and proceduresare adhered to.

Tocomply and ensure that non-registered staff are working within the manualhandling policies and procedures.

Contributeto the day to day management of quality assurance issues reporting andrecording incidents, responding to complaints and feedback in line with DerianHouse policy and standard operating procedures.

Supportthe organisation by conducting risk assessments for babies, children and youngpeople within the hospice, reporting and recording incidents, accidents andnear misses, actively participating in any corrective action required tominimise future risk, as requested.

Contributeto the safeguarding of babies, children & young adults, ensuring practicecomplies with Derian House Childrens Hospices and identifying any areas ofconcern and reporting them in a timely way to the Social Worker or a seniormember of the care management team.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

RSCN, RN (Child), RGN, RNLD & RMN with a proven track record of paediatric competency, Minimum of 3 years experience, however previous significant health experience may be considered.

Desirable

Community Nursing Experience Palliative care qualification.
