Specialty Doctor in Geriatric Medicine

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Specialty Doctor in Geriatric Medicine to join our friendly and supportive department at Ealing Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide day-to-day care for patients with frailty on the Geriatric Medicine wards and acute floors. Work in the Older Persons Rapid Access Clinic (OPRAC). Participate in specialist roles such as dementia care, Parkinson's care, or surgical liaison.

Main duties of the job

Our department's aim is to enhance the health and wellbeing of our older population. We deliver a comprehensive range of services across intermediate and secondary care with particular focus on early comprehensive geriatric assessment in the acute setting. Our services include:

Specialist multidisciplinary care on our wards for older people. Comprehensive orthogeriatric service An Emergency Department Frailty Service OPRAC/SDEC outpatient clinics Surgical liaison service Parkinson's service

Job description
Job responsibilities

In-Patient Care:

Provide care for approximately 15 patients on the Medicine for Older People wards at Ealing Hospital.

Frailty Unit:

Focus on comprehensive geriatric assessments for older people presenting to the Emergency Department with frailty syndromes not requiring admission.

Outpatient Care:

Contribute to outpatient clinics, including movement disorder clinics and general rapid access clinics for patients with frailty syndromes.

Clinical Governance:

Support clinical governance by contributing to morbidity and mortality meetings, quality improvement projects, and clinical audits.

Teaching and Training:

Actively participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training, and supervision. Liaise with and teach nursing staff, healthcare assistants, therapists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Teach medical students rotating through the ward and contribute to the training of junior doctors.

Service Development:

Contribute to relevant service development initiatives.

This role requires a commitment to providing high-quality care for older patients, actively participating in clinical governance, and engaging in the teaching and training of healthcare professionals. Successful candidates will work closely with the clinical and managerial team to ensure the continuous improvement of our services.
