Consultant Radiologist

Due to the expansion of services, we currently have vacancies for Consultant Radiologists to join our friendly and forward looking team. We have recently appointed a new Clinical Director who is keen to expand and develop our team.

The Radiology Department provides a wide range of diagnostic services (CT, MRI, Ultrasonography, Fluoroscopy, Plain Film), as well as Interventional Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.

We are also proud to provide a high quality breast screening programme which serves Bolton, Bury and Rochdale and have a busy symptomatic breast unit on site delivering screening and symptomatic services.

We operate an integrated RIS/PACS with voice recognition and are part of a collaborative regional PACS project across Greater Manchester(GM) with the aim of providing seamless access to regional 24/7 image and report sharing from any GM Trust for all clinicians. All of our Radiologists have access to home-working equipment and agile working is encouraged.

Main duties of the job

The Radiology team work as part of the Greater Manchester Imaging Network with both Consultant and Radiographer, clinical and operational representation in strategic groups. We work closely with other North West Sector organisations to develop opportunities for collaborative working to support clinically efficient, sustainable services and standardised care across the sector and Greater Manchester.

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit Consultant Radiologists on a full or part time basis with special interests in the following specialities:

1. Paediatric Radiology

2. Breast Imaging

3. Nuclear Medicine

4. Musculoskeletal Radiology

Posts are offered at 10 PAs

Benefits include flexible working and sessions of home working in line with service need. There will be a commitment to the 7 day working rota, with some on-call sessions. Overnight emergency work is currently outsourced to an external agency.

Applicants must have full registration with the GMC, FRCR (or equivalent) and either be eligible for inclusion on the GMC's Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the date of interview.

About us

Radiology and Breast Imaging forms part of the Diagnostic and Support Services Division alongside laboratory medicine, Pharmacy and outpatient services. The specialty structure consists of a Clinical Lead (Consultant Radiologist), Operational Business manager and Lead Radiographers/ Sonographers. This structure is reflected at all levels within the organisation. The leadership unit functions together as a cohesive unit to set the tone for each specialty and is jointly responsible for Quality, performance, finance and workforce.

The speciality is governed by the Radiology Board which is chaired by the Radiology Clinical Lead. We also hold Radiology Governance meetings and Radiology consultants meeting chaired by the Clinical Lead.

Bolton is a large and vibrant town in the North West of England boasting affordable housing, highly regarded local schools and excellent road and rail links to Manchester and Liverpool. There is easy access to the countryside and Liverpool and Manchester airports are within a short commute to Bolton.

The Royal Bolton Hospital is a busy acute hospital with an excellent reputation for teaching and senior support. It is a major hub within Greater Manchester for women's and children's services and is the second busiest ambulance-receiving site in Greater Manchester. The Trust has recently been named as the 'Best place to Work' in Greater Manchester in the national staff survey.

Job responsibilities

These are newly created posts within the team to support expansion of the services. The general radiology commitment will include plain film reporting, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, MR and CT work, and will have timetabled commitments in these. Subspecialty interests will be accommodated within these. A full-time contract will include 2.5 Programmed Activities (PAs) for Supporting Professional Activities (will be reviewed at the end of the first year in contract) and 1 PA for 7 day working (approx. 1 in 18 rota).

Upon taking up the post, the successful candidate will agree a job plan and work programme the actual timetable is open to negotiation and will be decided by mutual consent although it will have to dovetail with the other consultants' commitments. The radiologists' rota currently works on a two-weekly cycle. A commitment to working flexibly within the 7-day service will be expected.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

Basic Medical Qualification (MB ChB/MBBS or equivalent). FRCR or equivalent. Certificate of Specialist Training in Radiology (or be within 6 months of its award at time of Advisory Appointment Committee).

Desirable

Additional undergraduate or postgraduate qualification.

Experience
Essential

Extensive experience in general radiology including plain film interpretation, ultrasound, CT, fluoroscopy and MRI.

Desirable

Experience of working within the UK NHS. An additional relevant special radiological interest and expertise.

Training
Essential

Evidence of completion of a recognised training programme offering wide radiological experience. To be on the GMC Specialist Register as a Radiologist or to be eligible for GMC specialist registration within 6 months at the time of the Advisory Appointment Committee.
