Job overview

The Inpatient Learning Disability Services are part of the Forensic & Specialist Directorate and specialises in the assessment and intervention of people who have a learning disability/mental illness, and/or who are autistic and have committed offences requiring inpatient care.

The service provides 33 inpatient beds across 2 units on the same site.

The successful applicant will work as part of the Occupational Therapy and Multidisciplinary team.

This post would suit an experienced clinician looking for a new challenge. You would work closely with the senior practitioner to continually develop the programme of interventions, using evidence-based practice. You would also hold a clinical caseload of complex clients, as well as promoting the profession through clinical governance.

The post holder would need experience of at least 2 years as an Occupational Therapist, ideally with experience with learning disabilities, autism, mental health or in a forensic setting, and would need to be enthusiastic, motivated and prepared to work under supervision as well as work autonomously.

Main duties of the job

To ensure assessment of service users and analyse and interpret information gained to form an accurate formulation of function, strengths, capabilities and occupational needs. To work collaboratively with service users, staff, and carers to identify goals to determine and deliver an appropriate intervention/recovery plan which maximises occupational engagement and performance whilst balancing risk, and promoting choice and independence. To monitor, evaluate and modify therapeutic interventions in order to measure progress and increase efficacy for the best possible service user outcomes and experience. To act as an experienced clinician supporting best practice in line with NICE guidance and professional standards To demonstrate clinical leadership skills through the management of dedicated projects and approved quality improvement initiatives To provide supervision to junior staff and students.
