Job overview

We are delighted to be able to offer the position of Senior Pharmacy Assistant in the Aseptic Unit. The role will routinely be within the Aseptic Unit clean rooms, supervising and checking the work of operators preparing Aseptic products. You will be working within a dedicated team whose primary role is to prepare medication in a timely fashion for our patients.

This is a non-patient facing role, but every piece of work that you do will help to ensure our patients receive excellent care.

Our Pharmacy Department hosts a well-established Pharmacy Manufacturing unit (PMU) for preparation of unlicensed medicines. We hold a MHRA specials license that allows us to produce a wide range of aseptic and classically manufactured products .

The core hours of duty of the team are between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday to Friday, with the requirement to work 1 late from 11.00 am to 7.00 pm

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic and energetic senior pharmacy assistant to join our friendly team in the Aseptic unit. You will work as a member of the team supporting the production of a range of injectable medicines, Your main duties will be to work within the cleanrooms, where Pharmacy Isolators are used, to supervise the staff and processes being undertaken. Knowledge and experience of Aseptic preparation is essential

You will have excellent communication and leadership skills. You will also be able to concentrate for long periods of time whilst carrying out accurate, detailed work.

The post requires working some evenings and bank holidays.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Communicates all relevant information and advice to the pharmacy, nursing and medical teams; patients and service users; and to external organisations as required Supports PMU to provide safe and high quality medicinal products under the terms of our MHRA specials licence Contributes to effective team working within PMU and across pharmacy. Acts as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation. Develops positive relationships with internal and external key personnel.  Complies with legal and organisational requirements, standards and codes of practice on equality, diversity, discrimination and rights relevant to own role and responsibilities. Maintains and develops own competence and seeks to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional practice, policies and legislation. Supports the training and development of PMU team. Completes the mandatory Trust training. To ensure the quality of Aseptically prepared injectable medicines. To comply with current legislation, good practice, organisational and professional codes of practice and ethical standards. To ensure compliance with medicines legislation. To ensure any incidents and errors are identified, reported and recorded according to Trust policy. Proactively manage risk and maintain safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines. Contribute to the delivery of the Department Service plan and developments Support the Department to deliver PET targets and achieve financial balance

Qualifications and Education

Essential criteria

GCSE minimum grade C in English and Maths or equivalent

Desirable criteria

NVQ2 in pharmaceutical science or equivalent Completion of Technical Services Education & Training (TSET) Aseptic Processing Programme

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

Practical experience of aseptic manipulations Experience of personnel supervision and training. Experience of concentration for long time periods

Desirable criteria

Knowledge of clean room design and functioning COSHH Regulations and Health & Safety at Work Act. Good awareness of Good Manufacturing Practice and the regulations surrounding Pharmaceutical Manufacture
