We are seeking a strong leader and contributor with relevant experience for a role on our Actuarial team within the Product Management team. The position includes responsibility for developing and maintaining pricing tools as well as preparing and completing pricing analyses for products countrywide. The candidate would report to the National Product Manager.

The Lead Actuary will work with the Product Management team on a regular basis to provide updates on state and countrywide profitability and perform analyses at a state and countrywide level exercising quantitative and analytical skills with an initial focus on the homeowners’ and renters’ lines of business. This role will have the opportunity to grow with organization as it expands into different product lines as well as expanding the scope and capabilities of our Actuarial team.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Lead Actuary, you’ll support our business through the following areas:

Develop, prepare, and complete pricing analyses, including the development of rates, ultimate loss projections and communication of resultsParticipate in development and update of Actuarial models and databases through formula development, research on methodologies, and collaboration on technical teamsStrong understanding and ability to discuss and apply the use of existing & new actuarial concepts/techniques involving exposure adjustments, trend, loss development, exposure rating, et al with some assistance/guidanceApply mathematical and statistical techniques to analyze profitability on a state basis, and work with other Actuaries and Product Managers to make recommendations on what actions can be taken to improve product performanceAssess external CAT models and evaluate how they can improve pricing and underwriting decisionsWork closely with Product Managers to support introduction of new products, enhancements to existing products, and/or entry into new markets to reach company profit and growth targets including post implementation analysis of new product and product updatesCollaborate with business partners throughout the organization on the rate and rule revision process, including confirming scope and timelines, preparing filings to be submitted to state insurance departments, coordinating responses to regulator questions, and implementing final revision changesIdentification of data issues requiring specialized actuarial attentionPursue formal education via Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) exams and continuing educationOther duties as needed to support our growing organization

WHAT IT TAKES

Membership in the Casualty Actuarial Society as an Associate (ACAS) or Fellow (FCAS).Five (5) or more years of experience in primary insurance pricingStrong technical actuarial skills and strong knowledge and understanding of rating modelsStrong interpersonal skills. Ability to influence and negotiate with others and create acceptance for proposalsWell organized with a high level of accuracy and a strong attention to detailDesire to solve problems and think analyticallySkilled in linking multiple data sources to organize data into a logical format for analysis.Knowledge of SQL, SAS, R, Python, Table, and/or other programming/data query/reporting knowledge preferred, in addition, intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel is requiredIdeally some experience with reserving, although this is not requiredSelf-motivated with a can-do attitudeAbility to work as a team player to deliver results effectively and efficiently to a variety of customersMinimum of 5 years of experience working with Personal Lines Insurance
