Buckinghamshire Council is looking for a Public Health Practitioner to join its Public Health team.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit into a full time Public Health Practitioner post on a permanent basis. A new multiagency Healthy Ageing Strategy and action plan has just been approved for Buckinghamshire. This role will be responsible for developing and delivering an effective range of evidence based and innovative public health programmes for Healthy Ageing that will support the delivery of the new Strategy.

The successful postholder will work with other local authority services areas, other service providers both in the NHS and voluntary and community sector, the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities and other relevant national and area leads to maximise health improvement and reduce inequalities in health.

The post will be part of a wider team of Public Health Practitioners.

Job responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in Public Health related posts and have a first degree and postgraduate qualification in an area related to health promotion and/or public health, orat leastthree years experience in posts related to health promotion and/or public health, either in a local authority, NHS or voluntary sector setting.

You will also be willing and able to change your work areas according to the needs of the Public Health Department.

We offer flexible working and opportunities for continuing professional development, including support to work towards registration on the UK Public Health Register as a Public Health Practitioner.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Substantial experience in public health related posts. Demonstration of the ability to work in partnership in the fields of health inequalities and communities and a track record of working with successful programmes projects or outcomes. Demonstration of the ability to deliver effective multi-agency work including experience of responding successfully to the challenges of joint working, representing a public health or organisational view and experience of leading or chairing a multi-agency group. Experience of applying project management principles. Ability to analyse data, public health reports and evidence reviews. Access to vehicle, UK driving licence and ability to travel across county regularly. DBS check is required

Qualifications

Essential

Good first degree OR equivalent professional qualification. Postgraduate degree (masters level) in an area related to Public Health ( Masters degree in public health related subject such as Masters in Public Health (MPH) and/or MSc in Health Promotion and Public Health or evidence of equivalent qualifications OR 3 years experience in a post related post to public health health improvement in either a local authority, NHS or the voluntary and community sector.

Desirable

Demonstrable evidence of continuing professional development and working towards registration as a Public Health Practitioner on the UK Public Health Register (PHR).
