Job summary

We are seeking three enthusiastic individualsto jointhe Portering team at South Tyneside District Hospital, South Shields, working40 hours per week. The post holders must be flexible in order to meet the needsof the service and will be required to work a variety of shifts, usually overfive days with two days off, per week, as the service is operational 24 hoursper day, 365 days per year.

During periods of annual leave and sickness, there mayalso be the opportunity to work at any CHoICE managed sites which areSunderland Royal Hospital, Palmer Community Hospital in Jarrow, St BenedictsHospice in Ryhope, Sunderland and Sunderland Eye Infirmary.

Post holders will undertake all Portering duties, asdefined within the job description, with the aim being to provide an efficientand effective service to patients and staff, in order to ensure high standardsare met and in accordance with Health and Safety legislation across the variousTrust premises, whilst treating everyone with dignity, respect and recognisingindividual differences.

Post holders will be expected to adhere to anddemonstrate the expected behaviour at work in accordance with the CHoICE Pledge,(behaviour compact) values and visions.

Main duties of the job

Successfulcandidates must possess a high level of communication skills and be effectiveteam players with the ability to work with all disciplines of staff and membersof the public. We require staff who have a high level of interpersonal and peopleskills along with a caring and compassionate nature and who place a strongemphasis on putting the patient first.

The post holders will be expected to work the followingshifts:-

0600 1430

1330 2200

2130 0600

0830 17:00 or0900 - 1730

Porters will be issued with rosters 4 weeks in advance,however, there may be occasions when changes are made to rosters at shortnotice due to unforeseen circumstances sickness.

Portering experience is desirable,but not essential as full on the job training will be given.

It is important that the postholder acts as a positive role model to peers in order to promote aprofessional and well-bonded workforce adhering to and promoting the CHoICE Pledge, (behaviour compact)values and visions, within the workplace.

Essential-

High level of interpersonal, communication and interpersonalskills

Basic level Maths & English

UK driving licence.

Must be flexible to meet the needs of the service in relation towork location, working across the different areas of Portering, and working atother sites in Jarrow and Sunderland as and when required.
