We have an exciting opportunity at Writtle University College to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Conservation Education and Engagement Lecturer to join our Department of Animal Science team, to support the delivery of high quality, innovative teaching across our undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum.
Our recently validated courses, the MSc Conservation Education and Engagement and the BSc(Hons) Conservation and Community Engagement, represent a new and exciting opportunity for students to develop essential skills in nature connectedness, conservation and human wellbeing. These courses include both the theory and practice of conservation, as well as methods of education, engagement, advocacy and human behaviour change. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge in one or more aspects of the social sciences, such as education, anthropology, anthrozoology, psychology or sociology, with an interest in conservation and the natural world. The Department of Animal Science works closely with different sectors of the animal industry including livestock production, zoo and wildlife conservation and pet behaviour. We have established connections with conservation and engagement organisations such as Essex Wildlife Trust, Essex County Parks, the RSBP, Colchester Zoo and more. With a new investment in our facilities, and the upcoming merger with Anglia Ruskin University, we are hoping that this will provide an exciting role for an individual looking to develop their academic career with us. The candidate should hold postgraduate qualification in a social science or other relevant subject (PhD preferred),and be in possession of a teaching qualification or be willing to work towards one. Previous relevant academic or industry experience and an understanding of conducting qualitative academic research would be advantageous. Within this varied role, you will be required to design, implement, assess, support and evaluate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The job holder will be part of well established, professional, experienced and supportive team of specialists, already teaching on a variety of programs.
Benefits of working for Writtle University College include working on our beautiful main campus two miles from the city of Chelmsford, membership to Teachers Pension Scheme, 35 days annual leave plus bank holidays, access to our 24/7 staff employee assistance programme, and reduced-price gym membership.
The appointee will be also expected to play a vital role in our commitment to widening participation and recruiting students from all backgrounds.
If you have any questions or for an informal discussion please contact Jarmila Bone, Head of Department of Animal Sciences at jarmila.bone@writtle.ac.uk.
This role will suit a full-time applicant, or equally someone looking for a fractional contract. Please clearly state on your application form how many hours you wish to apply for.
