Scope of Role:

· The role supports New Product Introductions, Technology development and the Production Support of motor and generator products for aerospace, land-based systems and the oil and gas industries. The role requires either an experienced electro-magnetic engineer or an experienced multi-disciplinary engineer with electro-magnetic capability, along with mechanical design capability. The candidate will be required to work within a multi-disciplined team including project managers, mechanical and electronic design engineers, to support solution delivery. Involved in full product development lifecycle including major product development contracts, bids/proposals, R&D activities and legacy production support.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

· The design of electro-magnetic devices such as BLDC, Synchronous PM and Induction motors & generators, and desirable to produce derivative designs of electro-magnetic sensors such as resolvers.

· Where necessary, conduct electro-magnetic FE analysis and magnetic circuit calculations using software tools such as MotorCAD and Ansys Maxwell etc.

· Carry out basic motor / generator thermal analysis using software tools, such as MotorCAD etc.

· Carry out testing on new and existing wound product devices.

· Support the preparation of technical proposals, costings and associated documentation to support business development.

· Support production for engineering–based issues on electro-magnetic products.

· Produce engineering reports, specifications, compliance statements, procedures etc. to a high standard.

· Able to produce and review engineering documents such as drawings, specifications, reports and procedures.

· Work effectively within multidisciplinary and inter-departmental teams to support the New Product Introduction process.

· Work within company procedures and contribute to their development, the objective being to maximise company efficiency whilst meeting all customer requirements.

· Provide technical support to the sales teams in the UK and overseas in order to secure new work

Professional Knowledge & Experience:

1. Experience with the development of electro-magnetic equipment which includes BLDC, Synchronous

PM and Induction types, and desirable experience in electro-magnetic sensors such as resolvers.

2. Able to develop equipment or systems within the constraints of a highly regulated industry and in

consideration of technical/commercial requirements; designing to cost, having a right first time

approach and balancing the engineering and programme needs of the customer

3. Have experience of a high integrity design and manufacturing environment (Aero, Defence, Rail,

Nuclear). A sound understanding of mechanical design principles, requirements-based engineering,

requirements elicitation, validation and verification of designs at equipment and system level

4. Experience of Electro-magnetic design

5. Working knowledge of materials and selection

6. Able to communicate and influence at all levels of the hierarchy through presentations, verbally and

written, especially directed at customer interaction

7. Project engineering / project management experience in an NPI environment
