Clinical Psychologist Specialising in Older People

Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

We have exciting posts available for qualified and HCPC registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologists to join the Older People Care Unit. Posts are advertised at Band 8a; however, we welcome applicants who are approaching qualification, newly qualified, or if you are interested in a preceptorship arrangement.

These roles involve working in a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), where Psychologists are highly valued and form part of a wider multidisciplinary team, including other psychological professionals in some areas (, CBT Therapists and Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners). They offer the opportunity for a variety of work including psychological therapy, completing specialised neuropsychological assessments, and supporting the team members through formulation, consultation, and supervision.

You would be part of a wider psychology department that is committed to supporting, empowering, and developing you as an individual. As a department, we frequently come together for psychology meetings and hold regular away days and time out sessions. In addition, the Care Unit promotes the importance of professional development. We have recently been able to provide access to post-qualification specialist training, alongside holding regular established CPD sessions.

Main duties of the job

The CMHTs provide community-based assessment and interventions for older people with a variety of mental health needs and people with a diagnosis of dementia. The CMHT has links with the Memory Assessment Service (MAS), Young Onset Dementia team (YOD), Dementia Outreach Service (DOS) and the Intensive Home Treatment Teams (IHTT).

Clinical work within the team will include providing direct psychological and neuropsychological assessment and interventions. In addition, you would support the delivery of psychologically informed care and care planning through case discussions, MDT meetings, supervision, training, and consultation.

The role requires a qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist who will have specialist skills for working with older people. You will work closely with service users, carers, and colleagues across the Older People Care Unit.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Psychologists are highly valued by the Care Unit, and you would be supported to actively engage in service development and organisational change. As a department, we are currently involved in several service development projects including reviewing psychological therapy pathways, severe mental illness, and complex emotional needs. In parallel, the Care Unit is reviewing the provision of psychologically informed care, staff training to support this work, and embedding new roles to facilitate the delivery of psychological interventions at different levels. Psychologists are integral to this process, and you would have opportunity to both support and participate in these developments.
