The role of a Domestic and Cultural Abuse Practitioner Lead

The successful candidate will understand the impact on children, their families, and the wider community who are experiencing Domestic and Cultural Abuse. They will have an advanced knowledge of vulnerabilities and the potential impacts of these, in relation to Domestic and Cultural Abuse.

You will be fundamental to ensuring a coordinated approach in all key areas of Domestic and Cultural abuse work, consolidating all existing Domestic and Cultural abuse work elements in order to provide a clear overarching framework and approach to Domestic and Cultural abuse services across Essex County Council and our partner organisations.

Working with internal and external partners, the role holder will identify a range of early help, family support and effective social work interventions which develop understanding of Domestic and Cultural Abuse, identifying trends, challenges, and ensuring Essex provides exemplar children and families in order to safeguard and promote their welfare.

The role will require working across quadrants within Essex County Council, partners, and voluntary organisations to engage and influence practice and responses to domestic and cultural abuse, therefore improving outcomes for victims and families where domestic and cultural abuse is a feature.

We are looking for an experienced social work practitioner, able to manage higher levels of risk, mentor and advise staff, understand, and develop performance and deliver improvements. The ability to build strong working relationships with key partners and stakeholders is essential.

Skills and experience

· Educated to Social Work degree level, with a minimum of two years’ experience in a role delivering frontline Children and Young People’s intervention.

· Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relation to domestic and cultural abuse, including registration with Social Work England.

· Evidence of listening to and direct engagement with young people and families with demonstrable recent experience of delivery of multiagency intervention, utilising strength-based approaches.

· Ability to develop strong relationships with children, young people and their caregivers, internal and external partners, and other agencies to achieve joint objectives.

· Proven track record of challenging poor practice in a positive and supportive manner.

· Evidence of being an effective catalyst for change, for children, caregivers, and professionals.

· Take responsibility for identifying emerging trends, patterns and need using data.

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wider operational area including travelling around the county of Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings and to be able to do so in an emergency. Driving licence and car or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means is essential.
