The purpose of this post is to lead the learning design of Imperial’s pioneering online and blended programmes. The post holder will be expected to embed best practices and innovation in learning design, provide high-quality learning experiences to programmes at the Business School and be responsible for evaluating the success of technology-enhanced learning across the Business School.

Our team of Senior Learning Designers are responsible for overseeing all stages of the development lifecycle for our online programmes, from design through to delivery and evaluation.

Learning design

Oversee and coordinate the planning, design and development of high- quality online programmes for the SchoolWork closely with senior academic colleagues within the faculty, providing pedagogical 2 consultancy and defining and developing the most appropriate and effective learning solutions for the audience (MSc / UG / MBA / Executive Education)Create module outlines, develop effective learning outcomes and write clear and concise narrative textWrite effective design and development briefs for internal and external media and developers to work fromProvide expert guidance on choice of learning approaches and methodologies, implementing best practice throughout the student experience and applying our unique design methodology and ethos across modules and programmesPreparing new modules for final QA.

Delivery and evaluation

Oversee the rollover and preparation of online modules for deliveryWork in collaboration with academic faculty, programme managers and teaching assistants to ensure that modules are delivered in line with the Lab’s pedagogical approachContribute to a continuous programme of R&D to evaluate the success and effectiveness of modules across the Business SchoolActively participate in programme reviews and use the results of evaluation exercises to implement changes to programmes/modules and improve delivery to studentsDeliver training to academic staff on the use of the learning experience platform in teaching, learning and assessmentDesign and implement processes to streamline online activity to enable the Business School to develop a consistent and scalable approach to online learning.

Other activities

Participate in appropriate university groups and committees concerned with the IDEA LabContribute to ongoing research projects within the IDEA Lab and lead on areas of technological innovation in teaching, . VR, hologram etc.Keep abreast of developments in online learning in HE and collaborate with partner management schools to develop best practiceUndertake any other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grade of the postLine management as required.

Education

Educated to postgraduate degree level (or equivalent), preferably in the fields of education, publishing or teachingTeaching and learning related qualifications

Experience

Teaching experience (preferably online) or the ability to provide learning design consultancy services to subject matter experts and prospective partners/clients to design effective online learning programmesEvidence of prior experience in developing fully online programmesExpertise relating to pedagogical theory and lesson/curriculum planningDemonstrable experience in acting as an agent of innovation within a comparable environment.

Knowledge

Significant relevant knowledge of the nature of this role, or a comparable role, within a relevant teaching and learning environmentClear knowledge of contemporary best practice and the leading trends in online and blended learning.

Skills & Abilities

Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to influence and lead peers, faculty and external partnersStrong professional skills in the project management of complex projectsExcellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scriptsMeticulous attention to detail, works to a high level of accuracyConfident, willing and able to show initiative and take decisions on routine mattersAbility to work under pressure and deliver to deadlinesStrong team player.


Other desirable requirements:

Line management experienceExperience of working within a business school environmentRecognition by relevant professional bodies at a senior level.
