Binnies are looking to recruit a Principal level Hydrogeologist into our growing multi-disciplinary Environmental Services team. Binnies is a world-leader in Environmental and Critical Human Infrastructure projects in the Water and Flood Risk Management sector delivering exciting projects for clients including the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, Local Authorities and Water Utility Companies. Our team also works on other large infrastructure projects across sectors such as transport and renewable power. Our Catchment Management and Natural Capital teams are able to apply the full range of modelling tools and techniques available for evaluating catchment interventions and their impacts on water resources and water quality, and the subsequent benefits (covering both financial and wider benefits) that can be accrued. This role would in particular support our growing portfolio of water and catchment work where we are developing and testing innovative approaches to catchment management, and Solutions By Nature; a joint venture providing nature-based solutions via blue-green infrastructure to the water industry.
We are happy to welcome you into one of our offices in Redhill, Bradford on Avon, Swansea, Birmingham or Chester but we are open to candidates from across the country and can discuss flexible working.

Binnies hold the IEMA EIA Quality Mark which is a benchmark of our high standards in EIA delivery and is also a registered Ecological (CIEEM) and Landscape Practice (Landscape Institute).
About the Role
- - Be a technical expert in hydrogeology for the Water and Catchment team as well as the wider Binnies/RSK business as required;
- - Lead or Support the design and delivery of desk and field based projects, with a focus on groundwater;
- - Collaborate with other environmental scientists, ecologists, engineers and other professionals in related fields on projects;
- - Support the development of conceptual and numerical modelling within the Water & Catchment team, leading on groundwater models;
- - Support major projects such as DCOs, and where required, lead on workstreams with a groundwater aspect;
- - Support and mentor team members;
- - Support environmental assessment, natural capital and catchment services work within the team as needed;
- - Support or lead on bidding for projects; and
- - Support business development activities.
- - Provide input to designs for river restoration, Integrated Constructed Wetlands and Natural Flood Risk Management projects
- - Provide advice on implications for the water environment from engineering designs, as well as development of mitigation and enhancement opportunities
Qualifications/Requirements
The role is suitable for an Environmental professional with full professional membership (such as IEMA, IES or CIWEM). You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:
- An environmental related degree
- Chartered with a relevant institute
- Expertise relating to groundwater resources/quality assessment and management
- A sound appreciation of groundwater modelling and resource assessment tools
- Demonstratable knowledge of relevant legislation in the UK
- Successful track record in managing water resource projects, working with inter-disciplinary teams
- The ability to manage your own workload and be an integral member of the wider environmental team
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Previous experience of working in a consultancy environment is desirable but not essential
