Job summary

Thisis an exciting opportunity for a qualified Clinical Psychologist with at leastfour years post-doctoral experience in neuropsychiatry, neuropsychology and/orservices for older people. St PetersHospital is a 51-bedded hospital based in Langstone, Newport. It caters for people with organic conditions,including dementia, Huntingtons disease, alcohol-related brain damage, andacquired brain injury. The people wesupport and treat often present with behavioural and psychological symptoms,including behaviours that challenge. We are looking for an experienced,innovative and values driven person to join our clinical team.

Main duties of the job

The successfulcandidate will work with the existing service lead to deliver and develop psychologicalinput into St Peters Hospital. The service provides integrated care andtreatment for people with complex neuropsychiatric conditions, typically withassociated challenging behaviour. Thepostholder will work alongside a comprehensive multidisciplinary team includingSenior Nurses, Medics, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech andLanguage Therapists, a Dietician, and a Music Therapist. The post is supportedby WTE Assistant Psychologists and 1 WTE qualified clinical psychologist. Youwill have a key role in informing and providing effective, evidence-based carepathways within the service.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide highly developed specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the service, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care. To formulate plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a clients mental health problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across in and out-patient settings. To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses. To make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group. There are opportunities to access specialist training in Neuropsychology. You may already hold approved clinician status.
